Does anyone know what a choplet is? I am creating a family & friends sb recipe book for a friend's wedding. The bride's mother sent me recipes from her family & friends. One recipe is called "Choplets with Sour Cream Sauce." The recipe calls for 1 can of choplets.

I have no idea what a choplet is! I just did a google search ... no luck. I don't even know what category to put this recipe in. The family is from Michigan ... I mention this in case it is a local "thing." I know there are several folks here from Michigan.

I am still searching ... I think I found something at nomeat.com: "Choplets are a completely meatless, precooked, vegetable protein product. They are free of animal fat and preservatives."

Now, is this a main entree or a side dish? Those are two categories in the cookbook.

These sounded intriguing, so I did some searches too. It sounds like they can be a main dish or a side. Here is a site that has some info, you have to scroll down a little to get to choplets, it says they have a hearty, meat like flavor:

On this other site it has a picture and mentions they are textured Veg. Protein(wheat gluten, soy portein concentrate) and the category is chops, cuts and loafs.

I would put it under main entrees- and then subcategorize it as vegetarian meals.

Thank you both for your information. I appreciate it. I decided to include it in the Main Entrees section.
