Choosing Rooms at Resorts

We booked a villa at OKW - Can you choose a specific building/room (if available) at check-in? We're going for the first time, and it looks like Building 11 or 14 would be perfect - any thoughts? We have a 2 and 6 year old. Thanks

a few days before check in (others here may be able to give you a better timeframe) you can fax directly to the resort a room request. include your reservation number and your arrival date/time and let them know your preferences.

Note: this is just a request, not a demand and your fax should be worded as such (you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar) and also understand that they will try their best to accomodate you, but please don't get snippy if they can not do so.

if however there is some health related reason why you need a particular room location (i need building such and such with a room level floor at the very end of the building so i can get my wheelchair bound husband back and forth to our specially equiped van that will be parked in the lot near that location/building) they will make that request a priority.

I agree with Lori's post. And, if you're visiting at a slow time of year, you may have your pick of villas. And checking in early helps somewhat, too, IMHO. Good luck! :)

OKW is a little different because it is 100% DVC (not half and half like say the Beach Club)... They do not pre-assign requests. With the exception of medical needs and parties with more than one room, OKW does a first come first serve at check in. They will not pre-assign a building request or location. It runs into luck of the draw when you arrive.

With that said... OKW also follows what is called "rooms ready" which means they are going to try and get you a clean room when you arrive. If you arrive prior to 4pm (check in time) and nothing is available in the location you want, ask them if there will be anything that might not be clean at the time and tell them you are willing to wait for it. They are really good about showing you the property map and giving you options based on what is available at the time.

Keep your options open, Bldg 11, 13, and 14 (12 is smoking) are right across from the main check in... Bldge 62, 63 and 64 are across the street to the side of the check in area and 23-29 are across the bridge... Any of these would be good for walking distance to the main area. Also, with the exception of bldgs 62, 63 and 64, the buildings do not have elevators. Just something to keep in mind if you ened up on the 3rd floor.

OKW is very nice no matter what location you end up in. There are 4 pools and numerous bus stops located through out the property (the last bus stop is the front of the resort at the Hospitality house, so if you end up in the back you can take any bus easily to the front)...

I don't know whether you made your reservations thru Disney CRO or thru points (either as a DVC member or renting from a DVC member).
Disney has published several times in the DVC member newsletter telling people not to fax requests. They say that any requests for members/points should be made thru Member Services and faxes will be discarded without being read. I don't know if it is the same way for reservations made at OKW thru CRO, but I imagine it would be.

DVC resorts do not accept faxes for room requests. All requests have to be made either with Member Services if using points or with CRO if paying cash directly to Disney. If you are trading in to DVC, you must make all requests through MS.

When you check in they will show you a map with what is available. I would pick something with a short walk to the bus stop since you have small kids. My in-laws came with us last time and my father in law has a heart condition. Because of this we requested either a first floor room or in a building with an elevator. We also requested that we be near one of the bus stops with portable defibrulator. They were very accomodating. Just don't forget the name of your bus stop or you could be riding around for a while. Also if you have a stroller all the buses are handicap accesible. And they take that to new hights.

On the other hand, a stroller must be folded before boarding the bus (i.e. any bus being wheelchair accessible has no effect on strollers).

Also, somebody above mentioned building 12 being smoking. ALL resort rooms, balconies, and walkways at all Disney resorts are entirely non-smoking; however, there are smoking areas around the resort, and at OKW there's generally one somewhere in front of each building.

This is just another resurrected thread from 2006. :lmao:
