Choosing Paint Color for Kitchen

Our kitchen has a thin wooden border around the kitchen wall half-way down the wall that separates two different patterns of wallpaper. If I need to paint the kitchen after the wallpaper comes down, would two different colors of paint look ok?

Or even 2 shades of the same color would be nice. Very subtle but looks good.

Would the darker shade go on the bottom half?

I would put the darker color on the bottom, but I have three kids under 6! You really could go either way. You might pick a couple colors and try it over the wall paper you are going to take down, try one way on one wall, the other way on the other and see which you like better.
