Choosing housing???

So what is the process of choosing where to live? Do we find out where we live when we get there? I can't login to find out the details yet online bc they are having technical difficulties with my acceptance online. Do they give us choices or tell us where to live? Thanks you all for answering. I really appreciate it and Congrats to all got accepted for spring and spring advantage 2011. See you all there!

For Spring 09 while we were going through the check in process one of the stations was housing and they asked what complex I wanted (Chatham), which was available so they asked how many rooms I wanted (3 or 4) and they told me that at Chatham only 1 and 2 bedrooms were available so I picked 2.

We take my son down in January for check in. How many housing buildings are there and how many bedrooms are in which one? Thanks, it helps to know what the choices are before we go.

There are four housing complexes, although one of them houses international CPs. Vista Way, Chatham Square, Patterson Court, and The Commons (for ICPs). There are four bedroom choices as well, from one bedroom to four, and it doesn't matter how many bedrooms you choose you will always have a roommate in your bedroom, so the number of people in the apartment is double the number of rooms (unless on some occasions when someone leaves early, or requests to switch rooms leaving you with an empty spot). Have your son look info about the housing complexes and get a good idea of which housing complex he'd prefer before going down, they all have pros and cons. Vista is known as the party complex, Patterson is known as the quietest place and doesn't have a bus stop directly in front of it so if he doesn't have a car with him he'd have to walk a little ways and around the corner to Chatham, and Chatham is kinda in between with the party/quietness.

Vista is also the oldest so its not as nice as Chatham and Patterson, Patterson is the nicest looking because its the newest.

The price you pay in rent will depend on the housing complex (Vista is cheapest, while Chatham and Patterson are a little more), and number of bedrooms (I think 1-2 bedrooms rent is the same per housing complex, and 3-4 is the same per housing complex) I'm sure rent has gone up a few bucks since I did the CP so I won't post prices, but I found the current prices for my CP on a facebook group dedicated to my programs semester.

Thank you so much for this information. He's still away at school and completely swamped with projects and papers, but he'll be home for Thanksgiving and he will look then. Where can he find this information? On the general Disney CP site, or does he sign into a CP only area? Thanks again!

its on the disney college site, after u sign in, you gotta click on housing, and the have 360 picture where you can see the apartment, a bedroom and the pool. Last I checked patterson wasnt on the site tho, only vista/chatham. maybe this is updated? also, you can go on youtube and search "patterson apartment" or whatever, people film their apartments, or post pictures on blogs, a lot of bloggers are on here. so theres ways you can do a little research to get a feel.

for what housing you should pick, it all depends on what your personality is or what you want. Vista is the oldest, known for partying/being dirty/whatever, closest to walgreens, wendys, chik fil a , so its the most convenient. probably the easiest to make friends at.

chatham is like the middle ground between vista and patterson..parties but is also quiet. I live here and love it. has nice pool, and is the first to be picked up by the bus/last to be dropped off..which is a plus when your tired and want to go home!

patterson, the newest and has the nicest kitchen, its own car wash area (just bring the soap!) and air conditioned laundry rooms (the others dont have this). Known to be more serious/goody-goody.

these are all generalizations by the way, not everyone at vista parties and not everyone at patterson is going to be reserved. but thought id add some details to help you make the decision.

plus, theres the chance you might not get to pick...unlikley but depending on the date, it might be like, oh, if you want to have a 2br, theres only that option at vista. if it comes to that, who cares, its all apart of the experience. I went into it hoping I got chatham but I wasn't going to be heartbroken if I didn't get it, either.

Yes to both. There are only few choices in the amount of room mates you can have anyways. The wellness and nonwellness apartments are exactly the same besides their specific rules.

Yes, apts. aren't marked wellness or not, it's just means that everyone in that apt. are under 21. so it could be any number of bedrooms in any complex.

This is what I wrote on another thread and hope that it helps...

In both programs, I had continuously heard the complexes given theses nicknames by most of my fellow cps:

-Vista Way: the ghetto (a lot of parties, drinking, drugs, very noisy and busy because of the buses, the oldest apartments and also the only apartments that does not have balconies, smallest bedrooms and bathrooms, close to some restaurants and Walgreens, very social, and the least expensive)
-Chatham Square: the suburban ( a mixture of quiet peaceful days with a couple of parties happening every so often, the biggest bedrooms, a nice pool, a 10 minute walk to Publix and Walgreens, the second oldest but still seems new and clean)
-Patterson Court: the retirement home ( quiet and calm almost every day, the newest apartments, the biggest living rooms, the biggest balconies, a car wash area (just bring soap), air conditioned laundry rooms, a nice fireplace with soft lounge chairs right next to the pool, a 10 minute walk to Publix and Walgreens, no bus stop-you have to take a 2-3 minute walk to Chatham to catch the bus, the most expensive)
-The Commons (for CPRs): party city (only for CPRs, the outlet mall is across the street, some of the apartments are two stories, each apartment have their own washer and dryer for laundry)

I always laugh when I hear theses nicknames. I stayed in both Chatham and Patterson and personally I prefer Patterson. Chatham was great, but I thought Patterson was nicer only because they were newer. I love the kitchen, it was way nicer than Chatham or Vista. The carpets at both Vista and Chatham were a nasty green that looked dirty, while the one at Patterson was a nice beige that looked brand new. I love peace and quiet most of the time, so that is why I picked Patterson. I'm not the party type, so I tended to stay away from Vista. Vista also doesn't have any apartments with balconies which I didn't like because sometimes I like to sit outside on the balcony and read or watch the beautiful lighting storms. If you are lucky, you might get the apartment in Patterson where you can actually watch the fireworks at Disney from your balcony. I was lucky enough to get that apartment. It was amazing! If I get accepted, I am going to chose Patterson again. It's only a few dollars difference (like $1-$2) between each complex anyway.

And i have a lady friend attending as well how likely is it if we arrive on the same day that we could be in the same complex? And are the apartments separated by gender. Like girls on one floor etc.

The apartments are separated by apartment but not floors or buildings. It's mix and match basically. You can have one apartment full of girls, while the apartment next door or across the hall can be full of boys. There are only two buildings that is separated (one building is for boys, while the other is for girls) and that is for super religious cps (mainly Mormons) who requests that.

Actually The Commons is for CRPs not ICPs they can live anywhere They did the commons for CRPers as we go on 1 year contracts thats why they have laundry in the room as we're there longer

You're right! I will fix that! I always get those two mixed up though! Probably because I knew of a few ICPs who were there for a year as well (didn't stayed at the Commons though).
