We managed to take a spur of the moment 10 day trip to the Fort (10/14 - 10/24). The weather was great & I was surprised at how busy the Fort was for this time of year.

I spoke with several cast members about the "impending" changes and received varied answers - depending on who I spoke with. Choose the one(s) you like the best:

Everyone agreed that River Country was going to be leveled. What was going in its place was up for grabs. Choices include:

Large food court extending out onto Bay Lake. (This made sense because there were stakes with flags out in the water.)

Some sort of DVC venue.

Parking lot.

One Cast Member (the guy who picks up garbage on the beach) was the most informative. He said that in addition to the food court, there was going to be a DVC camping section between FtW & WL. These sites would all be water view, about as big as the premium sites, would have upgraded utility hook up stations with lights. There will be approximately 100 sites. The food court restaurant will have a large parking area so that HDDR & MBYBBQ guests and food court guests will have someplace to park besides the main lot. He also said that Trails End would be turned into a large gift shop/market. Now, he told me something quite disturbing. The Settlement Trading Post was going to be history. MBYBBQ was indeed, moving to behind the 100/200 loops along the lake. He said that the 300 loop was going to be leveled and that is where the pavilion and all the ancillary facilities were going to be built. I don't like this. I don't like this at all.

The TCD Ranch was going to be leveled, in addition to the current MBYBBQ & that is where the new parking lot is going. TCD Ranch will be re-built where the old kennel sits.

Josephine and Paulette knew nothing about any changes.

Two Settlement Trading Posts CM's knew about the DVC & MBYBBQ being relocated, but heard nothing else.

One boat launch captain also concurred hearing about a new DVC & MBYBBQ being relocated, and the new food court & parking lot.

I didn't ride any buses, so didn't get to quiz the drivers.

The guy picking up the garbage was the most informative of all. Once he started talking, he just spilled all he knew.

My brain just kept registering "Food Court"!

Oh...and there is a new lunch menu at Trail's End. It's an actual order off the menu fare and no longer a buffet. While I didn't eat there, Josephine did give me a menu to look at. The prices were reasonable ranging from about $10 - $14. This will be something of interest when we go biking at the Fort in the future.

The GC path and the "Wilderness Woods" between the 100 loop and settlement area are safe for the time being. No one knew anything about any construction in this area.

So, there you have it. I didn't go snooping around like TCD does, so I don't have any "construction" pictures to post. I do have some pictures of decorations which I will post later in a separate thread.

Call me crazy, but I like what the Garbage Guy had to say the best. When the Daytona Speedway put in those "premium RV" sites along that little lake in the center, I thought they were nuts. Last time we went to that race, those sites were pretty sweet.......and full. Although, I'm not sure sure how a site on Bay Lake might be, but maybe there's some Disney magic way to make the water prettier..... I don't know how I feel about making it DVC either since I know very little about DVC.....

I have it on good authority that the Settlement Trading Post is being leveled to make way for Mickey's Backyard Massage Parlor and Casino.

Can I pick and choose my rumors?

This I LIKE! :yay:

This I dislike intensely...

Let's hope he's only HALF right.

I keep tell'n everyone that my secret source is the garbage man (he knows all),,
but everyone always thinks I'm fulla,,uh,,well..

(I wonder why that is? :confused3)

Wow, Scoop Debbie, this info is breaking and gives TCD a run for his money. He will really have to get in the dumpster this weekend to rival this lol.

Deb-

Good stuff!

This sanitary engineer . . .

Did he happen to mention that he lives in La Casa Del Sol? You know, where the old wilderness homes from the Fort are? If so, I have chatted with this fellow many a time. He has a couple of loose screws. But, sometimes there is some truth mixed in with what he says.

In any event, you got some juicy stuff there. Tearing down the Settlement Trading Post? And the 300 Loop? Crazy! But, who knows? :confused3 If you think it all through, it could be true.

I wonder if this came to pass whether they would move the campfire area out of the Meadow area, to the new 300 loop recreation area, and maybe somehow extend the 1400 loop along the other side of the lake across from the new part of 600?

Ca-ching!

Donnie- Please stop giving away my secrets. My surveillance techniques are proprietary.

Um.....well..... you might say that. :clown: But, he did paint an illustrious picture of what's happening at the Fort. Who knows....stranger things have happened. I still like the Food Court on the water idea, the best!!:thumbsup2

No, he did not mention where he lives, but, he was very talkative - and he said he went to the memorial service on the beach for Brian.

BTW - Tom & Agnes told me that Brian's replacement (if there is such a thing - for no one can replace Brian) won't be starting until December. Right now, mayhem is the rule at the Fort. I saw as many as 5 cars parked on one site..... the site next to mine!!:headache: Security went through twice that I know of, and not a word was said.

Wow! I can't wait to hear what direction this takes. Not sure I like some of it, like the settlement and 300 loop. I am very interested in the food court and DVC sites. Although, I would never buy into DVC it is interesting for our fellow campers who have DVC. We will just come over and visit them.

Building over the water? I'm picturing a Wilderness-themed version of the Boardwalk resort. Like the Hotel Cheyenne at DLRP. An old west town themed and integrated with the existing Pioneer Hall complex. With DVC villas "upstairs" overlooking the lake, and additional villas scattered around it.

It's probably not the same guy then. Every time I see the guy I am talking about, he starts out telling me where he lives. I have spoken to him maybe a half dozen times, and he never remembers me. He always starts out with the same story, and then I have to redirect him. But, since he talks so much, I figure he chats up lots of behind the scenes folks, too. I am going to look for him the next time I'm at the Fort, and see if he tells me any of what you heard.

Even before Brian passed, there was a definite reduction in rule enforcement at the Fort. From parking to fires in the grills- things have gotten lax. When the new sheriff arrives, he or she will have his or her hands full.

If this were true Disney could market these sites very well, they could have views of MK fireworks.

As I understand it, they've changed where the Fort drivers are based out of. They use to be based out of the Fort, but now, they're based out of the MK hub. So they may be out of the loop. Not that they were ever in the loop.

Any Otter spotting?

Wish I had known you were there. I stopped in last Tuesday looking for green ears in a couple of loops.

Actually...regarding the otters... friends of ours that winter in the 1700 loop (and one is a lurker here...Hi, Agnes!!) said that they saw otters running across their site and on to the 1900 loop and the drainage culvert. THAT would have been a perfect vacation had I seen otters running through my site! (we need an otter smiley) Instead, I had Stacktester running through my site.:scared1:

There were 2 of us with our green ears out. I had mine in my windshield (site 1822) & DaddyscoolTV (1900 loop) had his out loud & proud by the road. You should know that us "Frequent Fort Fiends" (wow - nice alliteration there) are too cheap to spring for a premium site. :rotfl2:I didn't see any other "ears", but I know of at least one other disboard (not Fiend) person who was there. Go look at DaveInTn's TR & you will find a picture of Dave and Donnie in front of Tom Foolery's site. I was a witness to the shenanigans!

I have ressies for the 2nd weekend in November, but I think I'm going to cancel because we were just there for 10 days. I'm going to see if I can snag a ressie for the 2nd weekend in December. I'll let you know!

I know I have not reached Fiend status yet, but my ears were outside my passenger window this past weekend in the 800 loop.

I'm in the process of getting something better to display.

If you proudly display your ears (which you did) then you have achieved Fiend status! :thumbsup2

Not otters but I just thought I'd let you know to keep an eye out for a bobcat, my DH and DD saw it last week running from behind the bar at WL beach area towards the Fort. DD has been involved with animals/worked at zoos for the last 10 years and so I trust her when she says it was def. a bobcat.
