Has anyone had to stop their cholesterol med due to eleveated bilirubin? My dad has to see his gastro after his cardio did blood work that showed an elevated bilirubin. He's been on Lipitor and zetia for years.

Also, if anyone knows if liver damage due to statins (IF that is the problem) Is reversible, I'd appreciate hearing about it. Thanks.

Statins can affect the liver and will show up with the blood work. I think they will probably take him off the statins and recheck his bloodwork. The raised bilirubin is not a good sign though.

That's what I assume they will do also, but I know his cardio won't be happy. Even ON two chol. meds his chol. is high.

It doesn't mean they won't put him back on them...I think it will depend how high his numbers are. I've been through this....was on Lipitor for 2 years and then was taken off them because of raised liver enzymes (not bilirubin though). Turns out I have a rare autoimmune liver disease (PBC) but now they want to put me back on the statins and watch my numbers closely.

Hope this helped you and I also hope it isn't anything to be concerned about. Feel free to PM me with any questions later on.
