Hi, Does anyone have one? Walmart flyer this week has an electric one for $18.88. Comes with 7 molds, 12 recipes. I am having a stamping party next week, then another craft open house the following week.

What is good for dipping in the chocolate?
Can you use normal chocolate chips, hey, I buy mint ones too.

I have several different fondue pots :) The one with molds is for making candy. I don't have the chocolate fountain or the chocolate maker with the molds, and I don't think that you need them. I find that a double boiler beats all of my fondue pots for chocolate (and cheese, btw) .. if I am making the chocolate fondue for guests I serve right out of the double boiler or sometimes transfer to another dish set above a sterno or even tea light.. (they make one for chocolate that's ~$5-10) I've also seen chocolate warmed in those little pint size crockpots. In the end you want something that is simple to clean, that you can put in the dishwasher, and that you can make good use of. The chocolate fountains are only good for chocolate... If you want to make chocolate candy (the one with the molds, lolipops etc.) you can melt the chocolate in the microwave or the double boiler and then put it in a squeeze bottle to fill the molds.. you can find the bottles, molds and chocolate (it's a special kind) at the craft store.

As for the type of chocolate -- it depends.. you can use the chocolate chips from the baking section -- but you can also find better quality chocolates (Ghiradeli, Scharffenberger) You can mix chocolates too.. and if you are making it for dipping, you can add liquers (just a little) chambord, bailey's, kahlua, are all popular.

As for what to dip - banana, strawberries, pound cake, brownies, marshmallows, pretzels, frozen cheesecake all make yummy dippers.

What Heather said!!! Growing up, we always had mandarin oranges, along with bananas, pound or angel cake, strawberries, cake donuts, etc.

When Garden Grill at Epcot was experimenting, they also served gummies with theirs.

Our chocolate fondue was always served on a tea warmer, BTW.

Oatmeal cookies are fantastic in fondue! As are rice crispie treats and cherries with the stems still on.

We have a fountain and used it for a couple parties. I also make candy. I use the same chocolate, except for the fountain I add vegtable oil.

We us the sugar wafers, nutter butter cookies, marshmallows, strawberrys, banannas, choc chip cookies, pretzels, licorice, ginger snaps, nilla wafers, and cherries.

Have a great time.
