Okay so I want to surprise DD14 with a special big desert for celebrating her birthday in WDW and though I know these are both huge deserts that we have no hope of finishing it's simply the fun and fanfare that goes along with getting them. So I am wondering should I get the Chocolate Extinction at T-Rex (we are dining there the first night) or The Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream ( I would specially go there just for that) Both deserts look fun and amazing so the question is which one should I choose?

Sorry, I've never had either, so I can't compare the two. However, if you are "dining" at T-Rex, won't she be too full to really enjoy the ice cream? I realize you know the dessert won't be finished, but wouldn't she prefer to enjoy the challenge of how much she can eat (& enjoy it) & to be hungry enough to really want to dig in?

I'd think she would appreciate it more if one day you skipped lunch/dinner, took her to the restaurant telling her it's for a meal & instead get the mega dessert. I think your thought of surprising her with the monster dish is a good idea & sounds like fun, but let her be hungry enough to really be excited! Just my opinion.

Have fun.

I was also thinking in terms of possible fullness being at T-rex but we have a late reservation so might just be doing appetizers anyway. I think both just look so much fun and both have such great presentation it's hard to decide. Plus I read that it can be hard to get into Beaches and Cream so that also has me a bit concerned since you can't make a reservation there.

The Kitchen Sink is fun and tasty, but since you can't make a reservation there, I'd probably go with T-Rex. Appetizers and a big dessert sounds like a good birthday dinner to me. :thumbsup2

So it sounds most likely we will be going with the chocolate extinction:goodvibes I can't wait to see her face when it comes out and they make it start smoking:banana:

let me add the funnel to your list - it is at the fountain at the Dolphin - similar to kitchen sink but you select the ice cream options

And at Ghiardelli's in DTD
The Earthquake - Family Favorite 8 scoops of ice cream, eight delicious toppings, finished with fresh bananas, whipped cream, chopped almonds, decadent chocolate chips and cherries. $29.95

so many choices!

I would do it NOT after a meal. No fun when you are stuffed to start with

Have a great time! :thumbsup2

Oh I have never heard of the funnel! That I will have to google:rotfl: I know The Fountain is alot easier to get into and it would be fun to see another resort =)

We have done both... The dry ice effect of the T-Rex dessert is fun but we thought you got to keep the container it came in.. NOT! It is basicially 4 slices of chocolate cake, 4 scoops of ice cream and 4 things of whipped cream with toppings....

Now the kitchen sink is more amzaing in my opinion. My kids ask for it every time we visit WDW. I think you get more bang for your buck at Beaches and Cream. I would go for dessert only and if you get there about 4 PM you should have less of a wait than most other times..

Have fun.
Cost of the two items is quite different too..
I think T-Rex is 14.99
Beaches and Cream is 21.99 (+/-) a few dollars

Thanks for the insightful replies everyone, now I have alot to think about! It's most likely going to come down to how full we feel after eating at T-rex. Then if too full it will be between Beaches and Cream or the Fountain for The Kitchen Sink or The Funnel! Either way we get a ton of deliciousness and I get to see the look on her face when they bring it out:banana:

My family went with the Kitchen Sink. It made quite an impression. They dim the lights and make a big deal about it. We went in the afternoon with a party of 7 and it took about 30 minutes to get in. It is kind of a small place.

My vote is for chocolate extinction! Had seen a picture of it and thought ohh, gotta surprise my girls with it! They loved it. The whole look of it is cool, and it was yummy!
server brought it to our table... and I immediately heard kids at other tables nearby saying to their parents "mom/dad, can WE get that, too!!!?"
