Chocolate bar wrappers?

Hi -- I'm thinking about making personalized chocolate bars as part of a baby shower favor for my brother and his wife. I can do the design, but have questions for anyone who has done this before --

- what kind of paper do you print this out on?
- do you take off the original Hershey's wrapper or put this on over it?
- do you just use a piece of tape to fasten it?

I haven't decided if I'm going to do regular size bars or minis (research on the size of the wrapper should be fun to do...).

I'm also considering making chocolate-dipped spoons -- anyone ever done this for a baby shower? Suggestions for add-ins (at Christmas, I've sprinkled on crushed candy canes, for example)?

Thanks!
Erin

I haven't made the candy bar wrappers but, a couple of years ago I made gum wrappers (like for the small packs of Trident) for 3 different anniversary/birthday celebrations.

I like to use "presentation paper". I have used an HP brand and some other no name brand from the office supply store--both worked equally as well. I like it because it has a slight sheen to it without being glossy like a photo paper and the weight is just a bit heavier than plain paper. You will want to leave the original wrapper on the candy bar and just cover it with your wrapper that way people know what it is inside without having to open it up (in case you use different types of candy bars). When I did the gum wrappers, my mother and aunt did the actual wrapping part and they used a glue stick because there were SO many to make. Double sided tape would probably be a good choice for the candy bars.

I don't have any suggestions on the mix ins for the spoons--sorry. Maybe you can sprinkle the finished spoons with baby colored decorative sugar (pink, green, blue, yellow)?

Thanks! The decorative sugar is a great idea. And I'll look for the presentation paper.

I make candy bar wrappers a lot and usually I just print them on cardstock paper from Wal-Mart which is cheaper than presentation paper if you are trying to pinch pennies. I do leave the original wrapper on the candy bar and have it sticking out the sides...the type of wrappers that I make are sleeves that go around the candy bar, but do not cover the sides. If you want to dress them up a little bit you can buy shiny wrapping paper to wrap the candy bar in then put the sleeve around it so a fun color is showing on the sides.

I use double sided tape to secure by taping one entire end of wrapper on the side that will be taped down so that you don't have to see the tape. Make sure that you make your wrapper longer than needed to wrap around the candy bar so that it overlaps itself. I usually make my wrappers height 5.5 inches and the width 5.25 inches for the hersheys milk chocolate bar. I don't usually have the kind with nuts because you never know who may have a nut alergy.

Hope that helps!
