HI! We are staying at WL in 2 weeks :Pinkbounc and I'm wondering wether or not to do the Campfire thing at Fort Wilderness.

Has anyone done this?
DOes it take a long time to get to? Can you take the boat?
What time do they start the movie / have the campout?

Thanks for any help....

I have wanted to do the campfire thing for years. I don't have an answer for you but I thought I'd give you a bump because we'll be staying at VWL in June and I'm wondering the exact same thing. How far of a walk is it from the boat to the campfire, or do you have to take a bus? And how far is it from the boat to Trail's End and from Trail's End to the campfire?

Hi,

We do the campfire every time we visit WDW. It is so much fun - a nice way to relax and enjoy a great night with our family.

While I am not an expert I will try:

Depending on what time of year you visit the campfire sing-a-long starts around 7:00/7:30. You can check either on the Camping forum or give Ft Wilderness a call.

The sing-a-long lasts about a half hour with songs and a visit by Chip and Dale - they love choc. chip cookies. After a little break a Disney movie is shown on an outdoor screen. The movie schedule is usually available at the beginning of the month on the Camping forum.

A Chuck Wagon with all the fixings for 'smores including sticks, plus drinks and snacks remains open.

This is always the highlight of our trip. It might be a little tricky to walk from WL so I suggest taking the resort boat over to Ft. Wilderness and then taking an internal bus to the campfire. The drivers are very helpful.

Hope this helps!
Jeannine

Forgot - it's about a 20 minute walk to the campfire. We usually walk it but you have to know your way around Ft Wilderness, so a bus might be a better bet.

We haven't done the campfire in years, but it you have kids and are going to be there for 2 weeks - I would definitely fit this in.

You should be able to find out what movies are playing during the time you are there and then you can select a night playing a movie that you are interested in. It can be a lot of fun! It kind of has the feel of a drive-in movie, only you sit on bleachers.

The campfire sing along starts at 7 until the time change (from daylight savings)
Chip and Dale will appear during the sing along and then greet all the guests by working their way through the crowd. Be sure and bring your camera and some choco chip cookies (their favorites ;) )

at 7:40 the movie starts, the schedule is listed here on the camping forum.

The theater has benches and bleachers and is about the size of the infield of a baseball diamond. The benches are a little more comfortable because they have backs, bring a cushion or a blanket because they arent padded.

You can bring your own snacks and bevvies or purchase them at the chuckwagon.

Friday and Saturday nights have a double feature

If you arent real familiar with Fort Wilderness dont worry about finding the campfire. It is in the "meadows" recreation area. If you come over by boat it is an easy 10 min walk, if your feet are worn out ( a very common thing at WDW) you could catch a bus. Walk past pioneer hall after getting off the boat (it will be the buildings on your right) the bus stop is just past that. Take an internal bus ( I think its the orange and yellow that go by the meadows) and tell the driver where you are going, they will gladly get you where you are going.
When the movie is over reverse the process.
if you have any other questions please feel free to post them.

If you go please say "howdy" to Ms Sundee and Ms Julie and tell them their friends on the Dis are thinking about them
