Chinese Food

Has anyone had the Panda Express on Orangethorpe Ave? Did I read somewhere that this is a chain?

Thanks lilpooh for all of your research!

yes, Panda Express is a chain. Depending on the franchise owner, sometimes they have eggplant and tofu, which is wonderful. My DH and I ate at one Saturday night. They serve combo plates, rice or noodles with choice of 2 or 3 entrees. My DH is partial to their broccoli beef and chicken and mushrooms. I like the eggplant if they have it and orange chicken. Very americanized Chinese food generally.

I'm not sure of real close by. Though different and not terrible close there is a Benihana east on Ball Road about a mile down. They have good lunch deals.

Has anyone tried the China Buffet that is across the street from the shopping center with the Character Warehouse in it? It's about 1.5 miles north of the resort on Harbor.

I too was wondering about the China Buffet Skiingfast!!:) It is close (on the map) and is a buffet but was wondering if it was any good! Anyone know?

It's not really close to DL but since you have a car why not head to Chinatown near downtown LA? My favorite place is Empress Pavilion Restaurant. My most favorite place to eat in Chinatown.

Not to bash the Americans in any way, but there is no authentic Chinese food in the USA:upsidedow. This coming from someone who lives in the largest Chinatown in North America, and is used to the "Good Stuff".

I would recommend you visit the San Gabriel Valley the next you're in the area. You'd be surprised. This is coming from someone whose vacationed in Vancouver every summer for the last 10 years.

I avoid Panda Express at all costs. It is the chain that you find in most American airports - fast food. It tastes good when I'm eating but I just can't justify the feeling of self-loathing I have afterward after eating such rich and greasy food. I literally have a piece of paper hanging on the fridge that I made my husband sign that says "I will not let Erin eat Panda Express any more" that I drafted after a particularly icky feeling ensued. Consequently, other stipulations that I have voluntarily placed on the contract include "Erin is not to eat more than three donuts at one sitting" and "I will not let Erin eat more than 8 Double-Stuf Oreos at a time" lolol.

No problem! To be honest, I wasn't even going to comment until I saw BelleDozer's offensive post bashing the authenticity of Chinese food in ALL of America :rotfl: Call me patriotic haha!

If you drive over the Cities I mentioned, not many signs are in English. That tells you a thing or two about yummy authenticity.

Panda Express is gross. Stay away at all costs.

Send me a PM in a couple weeks. I may go try it out, if I go up to the character warehouse.

Did you talk to my DH? ;) I asked him if he ever ate there since he works up there once in awhile. He said he hasn't BUT maybe we should take my dad while he's visiting or go before one of our Saturday nights in the park dates. Now he wants to try it out too.

Sorry no shady/secret conversations to keep you in the dark. Hopefully it is good food since it's in a nice shopping center, not a dumpy strip mall.

well, the OP ask for authentic chinese food "buffet."

I dont think there is anything close to that anywhere anyways, authentic = pricey!!!

anyways, if ur lookin for authentic, go up to 5 freeway, get off on euclid, make a left on Cresant and the plaza on the right has a resturant called Ten Ten Seafood resturant. Probably the most authentic i can find in Orange County...

Ditto about Ten Ten Seafood. :thumbsup2 It's the best we could find in the areas surrounding DLR.

Does anyone know if they deliver to the disneyland hotels?

I'm pretty sure they do - we got one of their flyers at DLH.

Speaking of authentic Asian, be sure to visit the 99 Ranch Market in the same center. Some exotic stuff there.

Is the lunch cooked at your table like dinner?

Not to bash the Americans in any way, but there is no authentic Chinese food in the USA:upsidedow. This coming from someone who lives in the largest Chinatown in North America, and is used to the "Good Stuff". There's an IN-N-OUT burger joint where skiingfast is talking about, and a Ruby's Diner a 1/4 mile up the road. Both are excellent 50's style restaurants. IN-N-OUT is take out, and Ruby's is Table service. We have nothing like these restaurants up in the Great Whilte North, It's a tradition for our family to hit the In-N-Out burger in Fullerton before heading to our hotel once we get to Disneyland. Once you eat an IN-N-OUT burger, you'll wonder why you eat the rotten burgers we're stuck with up here:woohoo::woohoo:. Just my 2 CDN cents worth:flower3:.

I'll agree that there is no authentic Chinese at a Chinese buffet....it's definitely the Americanized (or maybe more accurately the Westernized) version of Chinese. But I totally and completely disagree that there is no authentic Chinese in all of America, lol. I spent several years living in various parts of China and while it's few and far between there are many restaurants that are quite close and some that are even better than food I had in China. Don't know of any around the Anaheim area, but the OP was asking about Asian buffet not authentic Chinese.

And I gotta say I'm totally confused why you would recommend In and Out or Ruby's to someone asking for Chinese, lol. I&O is great burgers, but not even close to Chinese...and well, I'l just keep my opinion of Ruby's to myself, 'cause mama always said.....

I've never done lunch there. I do know they have teppenyaki at lunch. But I'm not sure if the special lunch menu is made on the stove or in the kitchen.

We've done lunch at Benihana, not the one in Anaheim but one up here in the Northern half of the state....it was cooked just like dinner, at the table by a really fun chef.

We were on a budget and went to a place about a mile north on Euclid. I think it was Magic Wok. We got five generous entrees for $4 ea. and water for Twenty Dollars. The authentic Chinese food question is way too big for me. Chinese people have adapted their foods to places all over the world. They have fast food all over the world.

That's up near the new Target, on Euclid as you say. IMO Panda Express is better. There used to be a Chinese buffet at Euclid and Ball Road that was just horrible. Fortunately it's gone now, the building has been thoroughly renovated, and there's now a Panda Express there. ;)
