I know it's not totally budget related but does anyone have a good chili recipe? I need to get my budget started for our super bowl Party and I want to make a chili. Any help would be great thanks!

I've got 2 different recipes that I use depending on how 'easy' I want it to be.

1-2 lbs of hamburger
3 cans of diced tomatos w/ green peppers/onions
2-3 cans of kidney beans
2 packs of Mccormick mild chili packets

Second recipe-
2lbs of hamburger
3 cans of tomatoes w/ green pepper/onion
3 cans kidney beans
container of Bloomers chili base (usually found near ground beef)
1 pack Brooks chili powder
1/2-3/4 can of tomato juice

We put spaghetti in our chili but that seems to be a southern thing =)
I'd serve it with oyster crackers and shredded cheese. Hubby likes sour cream in his too.

I do mine in the crock pot. It's really easy but it's different every time. I rarely use exact measurements for anything. :)
I put a lb of hamburger in the crock pot, sometimes I'll sautee it with onion and garlic, sometimes with taco seasonings, sometimes just plain. :)
Then add 2 cans of tomato sauce, 1 can of diced tomatoes, chili powder, cumin, garlic, onion, and white pepper. sometimes I add things like bell peppers, or fresh tomato, like I said, it's always different. :) For the seasonings I start with 1 teaspoon of each and then add to taste. Chili seems to be quite easy, good luck!!

The only chili I'll eat (my grandmother's recipe):

1 pound 93% lean ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
2 cans tomato soup
2 cans Ranch Style Beans
2 T. chili powder, or more to taste
salt to taste

Brown ground beef and onions, drain off any fat. Add remaining ingredients, simmer for about 20 minutes until heated through.

How involved do you want it to be? I have a buddy who came in second or third in a chili cookoff (can't remember). He shared his recipe with some of us and it's great chili, really spicy but it takes some planning to make. I have to start the day before.

Sometimes if I don't have the time to do it to the letter, I just use his spices and make a regular chili.

I would love the recipe I have always wanted to make a good spicy chili I enjoy really spending time in he kitchen

I loe my chili. And now I want some. Think I will make it for tomorrow. :woohoo:

Here it is, sort of, I don't measure anything.

In a crock pot I put in

ground beef browned with onions*
a large can of crushed tomatoes
a small can of tomato paste
a can of chili beans
4 more cans of various beans, white, black, dark red, garbanzo
half a jar of salsa or a can of Rotel
a chopped onion
2 chopped red peppers
a bag of frozen corn
some jalopenos, chopped (omit if you don't want it spicy)

Top as you wish.

*I keep sloppy joe mix frozen and use this myself, but most of the time when people have asked me for my recipe they just do ground beef. But my sloppy joe mix is...

Brown ground beef with lots of onions and peppers. Add a heaping tablespoon of brownsugar, a splash of vinegar and a teaspoon(ish) of steak seasoning. Then add a small can of tomato paste and a can of crushed tomatoes and simmer. I make tons of this and use it as is for sloppyjoes or as the base of my chili and casseroles.

ETA- I always serve mine with a box or 2 of Jiffy cornbread. I mis some chopped jalopenos and sharp cheddar cheese into the mix before baking. I love those cheap little Jify cornbreads.

We just had some this week! (After being snowed in for 5 days...)

1 lb. lean ground beef
1 lb. ground turkey
1 large sweet onion (diced)
1 green bell pepper (diced)
2 tbs. chili powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. ground red pepper
4 cans diced tomatoes
1 can tomato sauce
1 can light red kidney beans
1 can great northern beans

Saute onion in about 1 tbs. olive oil over high heat until soft and clear. Add beef and turkey. Drain fat. Turn heat down to low and add spices and bell pepper to meat mixture until well blended, then add tomato sauce. Slowly add the 4 cans of diced tomatoes, stirring thoroughly after each can is added. Simmer on low for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Add the two cans of beans and simmer for about 30 more minutes. (Adding the beans any sooner will cause the beans to 'pop'). Serve with cheese and Fritos!!

My recipe is easy

I brown off 1 lb of ground beef

chop one medium onion

1 pk chili seasoning (Durkee's or store brand)
4-5 can each kidney beans and stewed tomatoes

I tend to simmer for about an hour after everything is combined, if we want a spicer chili I simply add chili powder to taste.

We tend to serve our chili with either saltine crackers or cornbread muffins

At times we add shredded cheese to top off the chili.

I received this in my email yesterday from Hunts. I haven't tried it yet, but thought it was timely.

Thick and Beefy Skillet Chili

Ingredients

1 pound ground chuck beef
1 can (14.5 oz each) Hunt's® Diced Tomatoes with Sweet Onions, undrained
1 can (10.75 oz each) Hunt's® Tomato Puree
1 can (15 oz each) Ranch Style® Original Texas Beans, undrained or mild chili beans
1 can (15 oz each) red kidney beans, drained, rinsed
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
Sliced green onions, sour cream, shredded Cheddar cheese and/or crushed corn chips, optional

Directions

Place beef in large skillet and cook over medium-high heat until crumbled and no longer pink; drain.
Stir in undrained tomatoes, tomato puree, both beans, chili powder, red pepper and cumin. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low; simmer uncovered 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve with green onions, sour cream, cheese and/or corn chips, if desired.

I think mine is easiest! We don't do spicy, so...

1 lb. browned ground beef
1 lg can crushed tomatoes (sorry don't know the oz. off hand)
2 cans chili beans

If it weren't for DH I would use canned tomato in chunks. We eat it with saltines and cheese, and I am really bad but I add sugar to my bowl. I got that from my dad. I add sugar to spaghetti sauce and to chili.

Mine is my mother's... not really spicy:

1 pound ground beef
1 medium chopped onion
1 medium chopped bell pepper
1 medium chopped potato
1 can chili beans
1 pack chili seasoning
1 (64 oz?) bottle tomato juice + 1/2 same bottle water

Takes about an hour to cook on med/high, feeds 6-8.

To change it up here's one for a white chili that is spicy but great!

4 chicken breasts
1 large can of chicken broth
3 packs of McCormick white chili mix
4 cans of any white beans, the more different sizes the better
1 or 2 cans of green chilis (I only use 1 but have had it with 2)

mix it up and enjoy- only takes about 10 minutes but gets better with time

Okkkayyyy. . .ya'll, I was born in Dallas, Texas.

I have to tell you, from my purist heart, I just wouldn't put beans in chili. . .it's just. . .wrong. (Unless it's vegetarian chili. Then it's okay.)

But then, the purists look at me funny because I, coonass style, serve my chili over rice. (We serve EVERYTHING over rice.)

Lived in Texas my whole life, except 3 years in law school, and I put beans in my chili. In fact, I put EXTRA beans in because it stretches the recipe. :goodvibes

But rice...now that's just weird. ;):rotfl:
