Child's OOP / Adult TS

We have the dining plan and are looking at the menu's trying to make our choices. I am finding that my grandson who just aged into "adult" at Disney would prefer the child's menu. Would it be possible to pay for a child's meal for him oop (as long as it is not a buffet) and all other's use their table service credits for their meals. I have read that he could get the adult portion of a kids meal, but a kid's portion is more than enough for him. Thank you for your help.

yes, you can pay OOP for his kid meals and use his credits for more $$ meals/buffet/ayce/shows. Just let the server know that he won't be using his plan

Yes, although there are some restaurants that will not allow a "Disney Adult" to order off the kids menu. Most of them are non-Disney owned restaurants in Epcot. I know people report problems at La Hacienda and my DD was denied the kids menu in Morocco when she was 10 years old.

OP, does your grandson have a very small appetite? It is something to keep in mind. At 10 my DD wasn't able to cope with a full Disney Adult portion (particularly CS) but a kids sized portion was not enough for her. By contrast to the large sized servings at most venues for adults, the children's portions can be fairly small so he may want to mix it up a bit.

We have found resort foodcourts to be particularly accommodating for CS credits where they will often make up an adult sized portion of a kids meal (mac n cheese for example) and we've taken the full sized beverage and adult dessert with it and used it as an adult credit, which worked quite well for us.

During our last trip to Disney, we took 3 of our grandkids that all turned 10 the year that we went. I have 2 grandkids that can eat an adults meal and one that can't. I found that the adult portions were too much for me (especially with a desert) so her and I would share, using only 5 TS meals and 5 QS meals each day. We were there for 5 nights so this gave us enough credits at the end of our trip to have 1 more TS meal for everyone and one more QS meal for everyone. We enjoyed a great breakfast the day we left and used out QS for sandwiches at Earl of Sandwich to take with us to enjoy at the airport while waiting for our flight home. This worked perfect for us

Thank you all for the ideas. My youngest GS is a light eater. Not sure if sharing would be an option unless I wanted to eat chicken nuggets or mac and cheese the entire trip He will have the option to order anything from the regular menu, but the kids menu is usually more to his taste and size of his appetite. He does love sweets, so he will probably get Grammi's dessert . His brother is more adventurous and is looking forward to ordering steak at all the TS and has assured me that he will at least taste the sides.

I'm pleased to see this post as I have the same problem my DS turns 10 a month before we go so has the adult DDP yet doesn't have the appetite and is not adventurous (ie he's a fussy eater and likes chicken nuggets and pizza etc) for adult plan. I was planning on ordering him the kids meals and paying OOP and saving his for perhaps an extra table service meal for us. Unfortunately a few that I'm planning are buffets so won't be able to do this but does anyone know if at ohanas we could still opt to have a kids meal for him as he wouldn't have any of the food.
Additionally was thinking about coral reef/via Napoli/ chefs de France at Epcot does anyone know if any of these have a problem with serving 10 year olds a child's meal OOP?

You can opt for the kids food, but not at the kids price. As it is a fixed price restaurant, if he's 10 he'd pay the adult price no matter what he ate, so you could just as well use his dining credit.
