Child's information in case of getting lost -- where, how?

Hello!

We are leaving for Disney soon and I'm trying to think of all the things I still need to do. One question I have for you with young children, where do you put their information on them, such as name, hotel, etc.? I have a DS (6) and DD (2). We have taught DS Daddy's cell phone # just in case, but who knows whether he'd remember if he were scared.

You can make a little laminated business card with your cell #, hotel info, your name, childs name. Slip it into your childs pocket or pin it to the inside of their shirt collar.

I love the idea's I got on here. Every morning take a digital pic of your children with what they are wearing. You just never know. I also like the idea of making tags at the pet store for your child and attach them to their sneakers.

i bought a set of dog tags from armynavy.com for about 6.00 (silencers included) with mine & DH's cell phone #'s on them. my DD8 has worn them to WDW and school field trips and so far, so good! enjoy your trip

I'm going to take a pic everyday plus put cards in everyone's pocket with my cell phone number and my oldest son's cell number in everyones pocket.

What is the general consensus with putting the child's name on the ID tag? If a "not so nice" someone finds the child and knows their name because it is written on the tag could that lead to problems? Since some children may trust someone if they appear to "know" the child's name. Just wondering which is best, putting the child's name or no child's name, just my contact info. Thanks for the advice!

Another option that has been posted by someone else on this board before is a temporary tattoo that you can put all your info on and it will stay on the child for about a week. THat way you dont need to worry about the child loosing the card ect. Just another way to go. Here is the link.

When we went with my 3 year old we attached a small plastic luggage tag to her shoelaces. All we put on it was our cell phone number. We explained to her that if she didn't see us then she could go to another mommy or a worker and as them to call us. She's not a wanderer so we weren't worried, but I did feel better about her having that on her.

My daughter is definitely not a wandered (she's two), but I will probably do something just in case. She's would rather be carried than walk. We were at Silver Springs in FL one time and a mother showed me how she had written her name and cell number on her son's tummy. However, I would think that could rub off when sweating. I will probably just make a card and tuck it in her pocket.

I laminate a piece of paper with "I belong to:xxxxx and xxxxxx with our cell phone #'s and hotel etc. and put in inside of their shoe. I use a piece of paper and not a card so that they will not feel it. This way it is out of sight for "bad guys" but will be found by police looking for ID .Also the older ones know that if they are lost they are to get it out and give it to "people who work for Mickey" or the policemen so that they can call Mommy. No need to have the childs name on it, but if you want to put the childs name on it, it will still be out of sight to "bad guys" .

We met a family at WL that had written the kids names and the parents' cell #s on the kids legs in permanent marker. We swam with them all afternoon and it didn't come off at all! The kids were 5 and almost 3. I would worry too about a person knowing the kids name from a distance, but I'll admit that we just got back with a 4 and almost 2 year old and did absolutely nothing for ID for either of them. I bought a harness for the little one and a wrist leash (at her request) for the older one and never used either of them! Both kids stuck to us like glue - we were very fortunate in that!

I just ordered these velcro ID-INSIDE bracelets for my 2 kids and they came in 2 days! I searched for them online and this place had them the chepaest with free shipping! I plan to use them whenever we travel...and even when we go to local amusement parks!

we just came back and I made business cards for all the kids. I had their photos on one side and there info on the other i.e. name, who they were traveling with, cell phone #s, hotel name, etc. I then laminated them and inserted them into a badge holder from Staples that we could clip onto the out side of the kids' shirts photo side out. The kids and paretns loved them!

My boys wear dog tags that I got from http://usdogtags.com/

They just keep them tucked inside their shirts, so no one can see the info on it. They know to pull them out & show them to a CM if they do get lost.

I put their names and our cell phone numbers on silver dog tags from PetSmart ($6) and attached them to their shoes. You would have to look verry very close to see the informaiton but it was there. They knew if they got lost to find a CM (Someone working at a cash register or ride) and show them their shoe to call Mom or Dad. The kids were 4 & 6 and I made them remember the vacation rules, since vacation is a little different than the everyday rules. Rule Number One was "Stay with Mom & Dad" and they never strayed once. I still have these on their shoes, it works well for the everyday concern as well as Disney. Good Luck.

I didn't see anyone mention "WhoseShoes" ID tags yet. It is a velco strap that you lace through your child's shoe laces. Is says "Whose Shoes" on the outside and you have to take it off the shoe to get to the information inside, so you can't do it on the sly. I bought them online for my daughter for our first disney trip last May. Several pairs of sneakers later, I am still using the same tag (figured I had it, why not keep using it?) They aren't expensive, under $10, and you get two. I'm sure if you did a search engine search you could find them online.

Just FYI, CM's are not allowed to remove a child's clothing to look for ID, so don't stash it away so well that that would be necessary.

Thanks for all these ideas! My DS is 6 and although I don't anticpate any problems, it is good to know this kind of stuff is out there. I may order a wristband. At the very least, get a ID tag for his shoes. He does know all of his vital info, but I can see him being upset and forgetting it.

Don't worry, Disney is great with lost kids. (Not that you will loose yours.)
When I was a CM, two seperate times I found lost children. When we couldn't find their parents, we brought them to "baby care" (look on your park map.) They had lost kids in there every day! There are CM that play with the kids and Disney movies to keep the kids relaxed. If you get seperated from your child, that is a great place to find them.

Also, this is a tip from the Disney website:

Introduce your child to a Disney Cast Member and specifically point out the Cast Member's unique name tag. If your child should get lost, any Cast Member can help him or her find you.

I'd like to add, make sure that you point out the tag is white so it's not confused with a guest wearing a "guest of honor" badge which look a lot like CM tags but come in different colors, with characters on them and say "guest of honor".
