Child's ages for buffets change

Hi! Since we just returned (and ate a lot of buffets) I thought I would let you know what we were told. :goodvibes

At almost every restaurant, we were asked our children's ages (12 and 16) and we were told cut off for child pricing is 11 and under. I took that to mean that children age 11 were included in the child pricing. Once, the waiter noticed that my 12 yr. old didn't eat too much and only charged us for a child. The rest of the time, he ate enough to justify the price! :rotfl:

At several of the sit down restaurants, we were told that anyone in the party could order off the child's menu if we wanted to. I even noticed at many locations, the waiters would bring pb&j (uncrustables) to children who were picky about the food offered and tell the parents "no charge". I don't know if this is a consistent policy throughout the property, or we just witnessed a few examples of "pixie dust". :teeth:

I just thought some of this info might help you out. Hope you have a great time!!!!

Thanks. The new policy goes into effect on July 1, before my trip. I'm not overly concerned about the table service restaurants, but the buffets. I can't see paying more than twice the amount I budgeted for her meals.

I read on another DIS board (prob the restaurant one) that adults who order off the child's menu are charged double the price. Has anyone experienced this? Granted, the give you twice as much as they would a child, but that defeats the purpose of ordering from a child's menu, IMO. Sometimes, I just don't want to eat that much!

We've never had this happen and have ordered from the kid's menu numerous times. If I order from the kid's menu, I expect to get the kid's portion and the kid's price. That's the whole point.

I thought I read that the adult ordering from the kids menu was charged double, but only given the regular child size??

This affects us too as we have a 10 y.o.. She often will get full after eating a dinner roll. Right now I have 'Ohanas scheduled for July 1, our arrival night - plus the day the new pricing comes into effect. . I am having trouble deciding whether or not to keep this ADR. I can't see paying $25 for her. Although I read on a few posts that said if you made you ADR prior to July 1, they would only charge you the kids prices. I'm thinking about keeping the ADR and taking my chances, but I am not sure. We are only going to WDW for one full day post cruise, so it won't really affect us much this trip (only one dinner ADR at 'Ohanas and one breakfast ADR at Chef Mickeys). But next time it will affect us. I already have a 13 y.o. who eats like a bird and we usually just go to table service places where we can order off the menu, and then her and I share. It works out ok this way as usually Disney gives you way too much food for one person.

We are staying offsite this trip for the first time at the Sheraton Safari. I figured for the 2 nights we are staying, offsite would be fine. We might even like it! We are staying in a suite so there will be more room for us. So I am tempted to just eat offsite on our arrival and departure day. We will eat around World Showcase on our park day. But since we will only be at the parks for 1 day, I wanted to try and get as much "Disney" in as we can, thus the 'Ohana ADR for arrival night and Chef Mickey on departure day.
