I'm wondering how this will work. I'm planning on going back next year when free dining is offered again (hopefully it will be) My DD will be 9. She normally loves chicken nuggets and was so jealous of the ones on the adult menu and said that the kids ones were disgusting. I've heard of people changing their kids ages and upgrading their park tickets so that the child can chose from the adult menu, so I would probably do this. It would only cost us an extra $20 during free dining, so not too bad.

I'm a big budgeter, and we're be planning on doing one character meal and paying OOP. (we enjoyed the freedom of the QSDP and want to stick with it) so I need to figure out how much money to budget. When paying OOP at a buffet, would we pay the adult price, since we upgraded her park tickets, or the child price since she will only be 9? But if we pay OOP, we wouldn't be showing our KTTW card showing that we're A(03)C(01), would we?

I'm not saying that I don't want to pay for her as an adult after upgrading her tickets, but I'm just wondering what to add to my budget and to figure out how this works.

If you are paying out of pocket, there is o need to show you KTTW card unless you were charging it to your room. She should be able to pay the child price, considering she is in the age range.

Hi
we have done this exact thing for this yr our oldest son will be 10 half way through the trip and so on the adult DDP and our twins 7 they hated the kids selection at the QS so i wasnt going to have them eat the crappy nuggets whilst the 10 yr old gets the good stuff:rotfl:
we like you will also pay OOP for some of the meals as the kids all like the signature choices at eachof those TS meals so we will pay the KID PRICE at those! and then use the credit for another place, this is done all the time!

p.s when i 1st tried to upgrade the kids i was told this could NOT be done and was really gutted I got told this a further 6/7 times by different CM's well i came on the boards and seen others was still able to do this!.. so this time I called up and explained that they had my childrens ages down wrong! and that i had just looked and realised so i needed to correct them and pay the adult park ticket price, the CM did this straight away no problem.....................
The one thing she did say was are my kids triplets:lmao: i said No that they was my DH and the other was mine(this isnt exactly the case but wasnt sure how else to explain 3 10 yr olds):rotfl2:

We are planning a trip next year and I've been doing lots of research....and have been a bit dismayed at a lot of the kids menus. MY dd doesn't like mac and cheese or peanut butter, and I was feeling that a lot of our venue choices will be affected by what we can get for the kids menu. So I think it would be worth getting an adult plan for her, just for the freedom. I know, we'll 'loose out' at buffet style as she'll get exactly the same for her adult credit as she would for a child credit, but overall I still think its worth it for us.

Do you think anyone will challenge you when you check in to your hotel, or when you enter the parks? My dd will only be 6, so it is unlikely she will pass for 10. Will anyone care?

Thanks so much

I had read somewhere that on the DDP they couldn't "tell" the difference between adult and child meals for QS, as long as the child isn't standing there with you. When I looked at my receipts, I found this to be true. The TS meals were broken into adult and child, but there was just one number for QS. Plus --- there is a ton of food with an adult QS meal.

On my last two trips where another adult was meeting up with me, I simply had the other adult take all children to a table and I went through the line alone and redeemed three QS as all adult. No problem. Typically we found three adult QS meals plus maybe one snack could be shared to feed two adults, a 10 year old (so legitimately three adult meals), plus a four or five year old and an infant. Then we still had one more QS meal (for the 4 or 5 year old) that we redeemed at some other point in the day (as adult) and shared five ways as a snack. Think loaded nachos or the flatbread pizzas, that come with frozen lemonade as a dessert plus a drink. Just ask for extra plates and cups and you're golden.

Because we've also found that at table service meals the kids menu is actually quite attractive to the kids . . .

I am having the same thoughts however I've also thought about it like this-

I'm traveling with an 8 year old with food allergies that already limit her choices. We have the regular DDP during free dining.

I will probably NOT upgrade her because I can pay OOP for the adult chicken fingers/burger or whatever and leave off the fries/soda/dessert making it a fairly inexpensive item. She can easily share the other 2 adult's fries/drinks.

The bigger concern at cs places is finding her safe food- nut allergies cut out nearly all baked goods (breads on sandwiches, desserts...) :faint: This would be an issue even if she had adult credits.

We can use the child CS credits for breakfast on our last morning.

I can only attest to Mara at the AKL but I asked about the discrepancy between the kids chicken nuggets and the really good adult chicken nuggets. The manager of the restaurant happened to be the one I spoke to. She said just to ask them to substitute out the nasty kids nuggets for the adult ones and they would switch them "no problem". She was super. I wondered if any of the other counter services that had the better nuggets for adults would be willing to do this as well ?:confused3

The same thing happened to us at 50s PrimeTime Cafe. We were on the dining plan, and when my daughter ordered the nuggets, our server said that the fried chicken was better. He asked her if she would like fried chicken instead of the nuggets, for no additional charge. That was so nice of him to offer that. We didn't even ask!
