We will be cruising with DCL for the first time this summer and I have a question about DCL policy. On our last two cruises ds was 10 on the first and 11 on the second. He was not pleased, to say the least, that he was required to wear a wristband with our muster station on it for the entire cruise. In fact, he hated it. He didn't like the feel of it and felt it branded him as a little kid. He will be turning 12 on this trip. Will he be required to wear one of these hated bands? He does understand that it is an important safety percaution for young children and will wear (grudgingly) it if required. I just want to prepare him. Thanks.

If they will ever be checked into any kid's club they have to keep it on.

My dd was 9 on our last cruise. She hated the wristband, it felt confining to her. (she is real picky). This time she is going to try it around her ankle. I think it will be less bothersome around her ankle. If it doesn't work there, we will go back to the wrist.

My DD (age 11) sailed with us Sept 2004 and had sign out abilities....

I was suprised when they told us they would NOT give her a bracelet.

(I thought it would be safer if she one in case something happened onboard but the do not band kids that age.)

Thanks for the info. DS was somewhat resigned to the fact of the wristbands, but will be thrilled that he won't have to wear one.

got2gp, if your ds has to wear wristband, have CM place it loosely on his wrist so he can slip it on or off. Our 9yo ds hated the feel of the wristband too and this is what we had CM do. HTH

I was told they had to wear it. My son had a *Y* on his which meant he could check himself in and out, even though we never actually let him do that.
He didn't want to wear it either. The ankle is a good idea.

My oldest son was 11 or 12 on one of our trips and he wasn't given a wrist band, just a sticker on his Key to the world card. So your 12 year old may not have to have a band. If so, we have found a couple of things that helped our youngest son stay comfortable. Beside asking for it to be put on loosely, use a nail clipper to round the loose edges of the band. We also found that keeping baby powder under it kept him comfy.

there's gotta be a better idea than wristbands! those things are a nuisance for small children as well.

my 4 yr old dd did not like it from the second she had it on. when we got back to the room after leaving to oc club, i took a look at it. you can unbutton it if you use your teeth. you will not rip it if you are careful. you have to get your middle teeth just under the top button and give a littel bite down and it will pop open. after that, any time she wantd to go back, we just snapped it back on.

:confused3

Microchip!? :rotfl2: well, it's good enough for my puppy...

Seriously though, a lot of kids hate the wristbands. DS will deal with it if he has to wear one. I do wish there was a better way, for the older kids anyway. Could the info be tied into your KTTW card somehow? My kids, since they are older, don't leave the cabin without their sign and sail/room key.

My son took his wristband off when he wasn't in the kids club. When he went back again, they just gave him a new one that he wore while he was in the club and then discarded it when we picked him up.

They made my two sons, then 14 and 12yr wear them and they never used any of the kids facilities. Neither wanted to wear them but was told they had to for evaulation reasons. :earsgirl:

I think we are going to have a tough time with ours too. they dont like things on their wrists too tight. I'll most likely slide them off when they are not in the club so they dont get lost. If not we will be replacing them quite often.
