I found this idea on another thread and thought I'd pass it along.
Open up an ING DIRECT savings account and receive an immediate sign on bonus of $25. Plus you get $10 for every referral you make. In my family of four, it added up to $130--$25 sign on bonus for me, then $30 referral bonuses for referring my 3 family members, then each family member got the $25 sign on bonus, so 4 sign on bonuses of $25 = $100 and 3 referral bonuses = $30, total $130.
Basically, ING is an internet bank. All transactions are handled online, they don't have branch banks. They're a large reputable bank with FDIC insurance. For more information, go to their website,
http://www.ingdirect.com. Also, the accounts have no fees, no minimum deposits or balances, and pays 2% interest per year. I've found this account a great way to save for Disney (or any other vacation). Because its a seperate account, money in that account is dedicated to whatever purpose you wish, without comingling funds. I found in the past when I deposited money into our general checking or savings account it just goes. But to open a seperate checking account to save for a vacation would be too expensive for relatively samll sums of money. We intend to make regular deposits to this account, and also deposit any extra cash, such as rebate checks, garage slae proceeds. etc. Also, any time we save something by reducing a bill we put that amount into this account. For example, say we save $30 a month by switching cell phone carriers. Then we put $30 a month into this account. That way we actually "see" our savings, instead of spending it on whatever.
To open an ING account you need a referral from an existing customer. I have some referrals left if you need one. You need to send me a PM with your first and last name and email address. I then provide ING with this info and they send you a sign up email. Happy savings!
