Childrens Clothes

Hi

Does anyone have any great tips for deals on kids clothes? I tried the Childrens Place Outlet, but everything I wanted was sold out. I love Gymboree, but it's just too expensive.

I need quite a few things for Christmas plus I'm shopping for Lillian when she gets home.

I'm a garage saler so that's my best tip. I have no problem at all with buying good, gently used stuff that someone is willing to sell at a steal! You can find any name brand label you want, sometimes things are brand new, and you can outfit your child for a year at the same price you would normally spend to buy just a couple outfits at the mall.

I would check eBay for new or gently-worn clothing. You can find some real bargains on Gymboree, HealthTex, HartStrings and CP items that are NWT (New With Tag). If you buy a number of items from a single seller, they will almost always combine shipping charges for you to save a few $$$ on the total cost.

I buy a lot of items on clearance for the following year. This assumes your kids grow predictably and you have room to store things.

for basics - Kohl's clearance is awesome. I also think that Children's place is pretty reasonable even at full price. they often run specials, right now there is a 25% off code and a free shipping code% that you can combine. I don't shop kmart ever, won't buy clothes at Walmart, but have been pleased with most things from Target. The xhilaration brand and seasonal tees are not great, but the rest is good. I do hang dry most things and that helps.

Sears is also good - they carry decent brands, Carters/Oshkosh and Lands End. If you join the kidsclub, then for every $100 you spend they send you a % off coupon. Lands End stuff counts towards earning the coupon, but you can't get a discount on LE stuff. They also replace worn out jeans/pants if they still fit. Seriously, blow out a knee in jeans and take them back for a replacement.

I like checking out the online sales. The Overstock section on Lands End's website has some decent deals. Also, the Sale section of L.L. Bean's website. And the Clearance section on Kohls' website has been kind to me.

Also, like another poster said, I tend to shop the "end of season" sales for clothes for the following year.

Watch Old Navy online for sales and check out their clearance items. I can usually get some great deals. Also shippping is only $5.

I buy alot of my kids clothes at the local thrift store. They pickup in many of the more affluent areas in our region. I get a ton of Gap, Gymboree, Ralph Lauren and more at dirt cheap prices!

I also do alot of the end of the season buying at Gap, Old Navy and Kohl's.

Gymboree fanatic here if you follow the sales trends you can usually score at the Red Hot Dot Sales....they have one every few months. One year they marked EVERYTHING IN THE STORE down to $7.99. Even winter coats! You can often find shirts for $2.99, pants for $6.99, accessories like hats and socks for 99 cents. Very reasonable IMHO and the resale value on Ebay is awesome. Gymboree can be affordable!

I love buying used things for my girls. When I've paid .50 for a shirt, I don't care if it is ruined playing outside. If I've paid $20 for the same shirt, I am angry with the girls for being careless.

When they were small, I had great luck through yard sales. Now that they're wearing larger sizes, the good stuff has largely run out, but I find enough on ebay to make it worth my while.

I buy Walmart and Target stuff ONLY if it's clearance-priced, and I consider it a one-season item. These things just don't hold up like the nicer name brands. Given the choice, I'd rather buy a pair of used Lee jeans than a pair of new Target-brand jeans.

I like Sears for basics like coats and jeans. They guarantee all their kids' clothes -- shoes too! -- and will replace them FREE if they are worn out, stained, faded, or ripped. They replace them even if your child destroyed the item. You must save your original tags and receipt to "trade in". Since I have two girls, I take advantage of this deal! They've always been really nice about it too.

My best kids' clothes tip: Don't over-buy. Kids don't need a whole closet-ful of clothes. They don't need twenty 2T church dresses and four pair of size 5 dress shoes. They don't need five swim suits. These things will be outgrown very quickly.

We have a Carter's store at our closest outlet mall. It is great!! You can sign up on their website and recieve coupons through email. The best thing is their return policy. If the items have the tags on them and you have the receipt you can return it anytime for what you paid. If you don't have the reciept you will get the lowest sale price. My mom bought my DD a whole bunch of summer clothes for next year for about $3 each and if it doesn't fit when next year comes we can return it for what she paid with our receipt. I love that store!! Also check out Baby Gap sales! If you hit is right they often have great markdowns and lots of them. I have found really cute Tommy dresses at a department store, local to our state, for only $16. TJ Maxx is a great place too. I have purchased Polo and Tommy there nothing over $17. When it comes to getting bargains you just have to have the time and the patience to look around. Sign up on stores websites to get there emails when they have good sales. I get Gymboree emails all the time and they often have good sales too.
I LOVE to bargain shop. My DD has pretty much all name brands and I don't think I have ever paid full price. I leave that for my mom to do!!!

I also shop at the thrift stores. You can get some nice stuff from there. This way you aren't out alot of money if it is ruined. (My DH is very rough on his clothes at work.) I am kind of picky about kids jeans. Alot of the kid jeans have worn knees. But if you have time to look, you can get great deals.

Go to Sears at the end of each season and stock up on discounted Lands End clothes for the next year.

Here's my opinion of the least expensive options in order from the lowest to highest prices overall:
1. garage sale
2. Goodwill or thrift store
3. eBay/clearance racks
4. consignment store
5. store promos (like Gymbucks)

I'm a Gymboree shopper. I use Walmart prices as the unit of measure, and by shopping the sales I spend LESS at Gymbo. For instance: a pair of jeans with embroidery at Walmart runs $15 or so. I've paid $9.99 at Gymboree for jeans originally tagged at $36. The Red Hot Dot sale seems to come around quarterly I believe. As long as Target and Walmart cost more than I'm paying for Gymbo, I'm happy. Like a previous poster said - Gymbo has eBay resale value that you don't get with most other brands. I've also picked up some clearance rack goodies and eBayed them for a profit, further defraying the cost of my dd's clothes. That being said, it's not the most economical way to dress your child.
