Yesterday at dinner, I asked my 4yr old granddaughter what she would like for Christmas. She said a bible, I do not have one. I almost fell off the chair. She is in preschool and once a week, they have some sort of bible lesson. Can anyone recommend a good children's bible with pictures and where to buy it? I asked my DH to help me with something while making dinner and the DGD told me that I should not be asking the Lord to help me with dinner. I asked her since when is Grandpop the Lord?

Is the family a particular Denomination?
There are certain Churches who are very particular regarding different translations.

We have an illustrated Bible here that is adapted from the NIV Bible. But it honestly is not very useful for Sunday School or study. However, it does great for bedtime reading stories...

I would suggest going into a Christian Bookstore and looking around. At 4 years old, illustrations are really important as well as the words.

You could go to lifewaystores.com and do a search on childrens bibles. This is a website for a christian book store and they have local stores all over. You could purchase one and have her name engraved on it, some stores do it for free or for a small fee. For a child about 4 yrs old, I'd say Psalty's Kid Bible, I would get the NIV version which is easier to read and understand. Here is the website that shows this bible.

Thanks. They are Catholic, I was looking for one with pictures along with the story. I remember having one as a child and just loved the story of Joseph and the coat of many colors.

The Childrens Bible Story Book
ISBN #0-8407-7652-7

Has pictures, simple sentences, and easy to follow stories. Our dd loves hers!

I did a search on Lifeway and we have a store about 30 minutes away, I will go there. I hate to sound dumb, but what is a NIV version mean?

NIV mean New International version. Its the most popular translation now among Protestants. It used the oldest possible Hebrew and Greek texts as its basis and its a fairly good translation overall, though there are some transaltion issues and a bit of an evangelistic byas. The NIV study Bible is very good and has facinating footnotes.

NIV is the new international version. It is alot easier to read and understand. For an example...instead of cometh it would say come.
