We(DH, DD - 5 yrs. old) are visiting Vero Beach for the first time using DVC points in August.

Can anyone give me feedback on the Children's Activities there? From what I understand they have various activities scheduled for the children throughout the day, but the children must be accompanied by a parent? Also a few nights a week they take the kids(without the parents) for $30 each from 5:00-8:00 for dinner and activities. Has anyone done this and what type of activities do they do? Does this involve characters at all - my DD is terrified of characters even after spending a week at WDW!?

Thanks!:D

Welcome to the DIS! I haven't been to VB in a couple of years, but maybe I can help until someone with recent experience posts. There were quite a few activities for kids when we were there last. We did utilize the Kids Club, where you leave them for a few hours one night, and my kids had a blast. They also participated in a few other activities and it seems as though we stayed with them for some activities, whereas were able to leave them for others. We stayed at VB the first two years we were DVC members and didn't fully utilize all the activities. Since being on these boards and reading trip reports - we've started taking advantage of more of what DVC offers. I think the recreation departments at VB and HH do an outstanding job to keep everyone busy. Some people recommend you ask the resort to fax an activity sheet ahead of time so you can have an idea of what might be offered while you visit. As far as characters at VB - I don't think they are around except at a breakfast or dinner maybe once or twice a week. We've never seen characters there or at HH.

Here are of the few activities that I can remember off the top of my head....

  • SnorkelEARS: Snorkeling for kids about 6-10
  • Unbirthday Party: Usually every other day for kids 3-10
  • Bingo: Usually 6+, (Though my DW and MIL have gone and played..)
  • Animated Cel Painting: There is a cost for this one...
  • Banjo on the Porch: Listening to one of the CM's playing the banjo
  • Tot Treasure Hunt: Fun... My DS loves this one.....
  • Character Breakfast: Only thing at VB with characters... Extremely fun, but if your little one isn't into Goofy or Max, then you could opt out...
  • Playground: The resort has a playground young children...
  • Kiddie Pool: Themed as "Tiger Lilly" from Peter Pan... Very cool... You have to be UNDER 48 inches tall to play on it though.
  • Campfire: Family fun, usually every other night....

We have never done the 2DC (Disney Discovery Club) with our kids... But I have heard good things about it...

I'm sure I'm missing some things, but there are several things for young kids to do... The resort will change the schedule around from time to time, but you could call them and ask them to fax you a copy of a few days itinary to get a complete list....

we were just there last week. we paid the 5$ length of stay fee for the mini golf and used it every day, several times a day. :D

dd went on the kids fishing thing, (30$ but you get to keep your fishing pole and tackle box and it's 2hrs long. nice fishing pole too)

they had several arts and crafts as well, sand casting (this is fun), we made the butterfly houses (not as exciting)

water slide races (they just time you from the top to the bottom)

the un-birthday activity is lots of fun, just make sure you are at eb and flo's bright and early to sign up because it fills up fast (this is the only activity that you have to sign up the day of and not in advance)

other than that, we spent lots of time collecting sea shells on the beach, swimming in the pool and pretty much not doing much else. :D

enjoy! maggie

ps: there is also a character breakfast with max and goofy, can't remember what days, saturday I think and then maybe one other day.
