Children in the jacuzzis

Sorry but My DD who are 5 and 8yo go in with us and are well behaved. Mybe since we have our own hot tub I don't see what the deal is. Yes I agree rowdy children and ADULTS should not be allowed in. If kids are well behave and supervised whats the problem? I have seen "20 somethings" drunk in the hot tubs who I am sure were more likely to pee in it then my daughters.

No lizzie64 that's not the case. There's a great,shallow kiddie pool for the toddlers. That way if there's an accident it is isolated rather than affecting all guests.
The system works well and everyone feels a little reassured by it actually.

You'd be surprised how popular the place is with families with youg children,including ours. It is packed all summer and there's a waiting list to buy/rent,mostly involving families with kids of all ages. And its only about 25 minutes east of Jackson!

Oh, that's good. I thought it would be pretty hard for a family with young ones to be able to enjoy the pool if the little ones couldn't go in.

I know my guys love the water.

We go to Myrtle Beach every year and there too, there are several pools and some specifically for the kids.

I really have to say that I also let my children go in the hot tub with very strict rules. First, before you get on me about the safety of it, I have talked with my son's doctor and his special education team. DS is 2 and has a tightening of muscles and other medical conditions. Swimming and sitting in the hot tub is very good for him per his whole team of doctors. The hot tub time does need to be limited and I don't let him in if he says it is too hot. My children sit quietly close to me or in my lap. They also both ask to get out if they have to go to the bathroom (including DS who is 2).

I agree with the person who wrote about the rowdy adults in hot tubs. There have been many times when I wish the adults would get thrown out!

I think that hot tub use for children does need to be supervised and I wish that Disney would work at getting unsupervised children out of the hot tubs. However, I do not like parents who look at me as if I am the enemy when I bring my child into the hot tub for a few minutes. I have paid as much as they have to use everything our resort has to offer.

I do understand, kids should not be in hot tubs unsupervised or allowed to splash around, etc. But I also don't like the unruly, usually older kids in the main pools rough housing and jumping and splashing my smaller kids. Here, here. I'm with you. When used responsibly, with adult supervision, there is no reason kids should not be allowed to use the hot tubs. I agree, kids should be doing as adults do. Sitting, relaxing, and not splashing around. If that is all a kid is doing nobody has any right to complain. Everyone pays the same to use the resort facilities, and everyone has a right to them.

I see nothing wrong with children using the hot tubs, as long as their little bodies are old enough and strong enough to relax in the water without risk to their health. I don't want to be in while a child is swimming or snorkeling (that cracked me up! ) in the tub. I think they have every right to be there as long as they're using the hot tub for it's intended purpose. We all could use the relaxation that the hot tub offers, no matter what the age, again, unless their young age or bodies would cause a health risk for them.

Yes, non potty trained children are allowed in the pool if they wear swim diapers. The health code in MD states that is acceptable. If the swim diaper fits correctly they do keep the solid matter out of the pool which is all the health department cares about. Urine on the other hand is not a safety hazard. Unfortunately most young kids and even some drunken adults would have to wear a swim diaper if urine was a problem! Personally I would never do a public hot tub because there is too much involved to keep it at standard levels and I can't see a CM testing it hourly which is what is needed. I also find it odd that all the parents posted here that take their kids in the hot tubs are all angels. So where are these little hellions I see coming from? LOL! If they ever banned little ones in pools at WDW then I am sure they would lose a lot of vacationers. I would have never went anywhere if my kids could not use the main facilities such as a pool.

FYI: WDW does NOT allow snorkels. We found that out in the main pool. The life guards said its to hard to see if someone is "drowning " or not.

especially at the Disney resorts......they do keep up on the amount of chemicals that are going into the hottub .....they have a room behind the bushes in alot of the areas.....also the hot tubs are tested three or four times a day.....and before and after alot of traffic......I am thankful that they are diligent in their testing areas......same with the main pools.....

Unfortunately a few bad apples are what is driving some people's displeasure with kids in hot tubs . I have been in hot tubs at Disney many times, with many kids, and they have almost always been well behaved. As a matter of fact, I've seen more annoying adults in the hot tubs (cursing, drinking, allowing their kids to get lost..................) than I have kids. A few people posting on an internet bulletin board does not mean that all kids in Disney hot tubs are 'hellions' .

I was speaking of my experiences with kids in the hot tubs that they are hellions. I've seen it at the CBR three times and the WL once. I don't believe I've ever seen a well behaved kid in a hot tub. But really this is all mute as children under 12 aren't even allowed to be in the hot tubs whether they are well behaved or with their parent. I know there are signs at the CBR and the WL that stated no one under 12 permitted in the hot tubs and ones under 18 must have a parent with them. To me this means that under 12 is NOT permitted whether a parent is with them or not. If the parents followed the rules there would not be a problem.

Oh, I so totally agree. There is just something about a public hot tub that just grosses me out. However, my DH always uses them and sometimes allows my angelic little 6 yo in with him for about 5 minutes.

I don't have a problem with kids in the hot tub if they are SITTING and with their parents. Hot tubs are not for swimming IMO.

That said, I don't allow my kids in the hot tub.

Once while staying at a hotel I went over to sit in an out of view hot tub while dh and the kids were in the pool. Pretty soon I was joined by a kid about 4 or 5 years old. He was totally out of view from the pool with no adult with him. I can be pretty stern and I refused to let him in the pool. I pointed to the sign and told him he couldn't get in without an adult. I couldn't believe I spent several minutes talking with this child in a place his mother couldn't see and she sat lounging unconcerned over by the pool! What makes it worse is the exit was by me so the mom had no idea if I was even over there or if her child was playing in an empty hot tub. Heck, I still worry about my 7 year old in the bathtub!

Sorry you have had such bad experiences. I don't doubt that you have experienced the wrath of the hellions. My experiences have been quite different. If your position is that all kids in hot tubs are hellions I can assure you they are not. If you are saying some, I agree. I suppose the percentage is debateable.

The sign was there at the WL in May 2002. I'm not saying all children are hellions in hot tubs. Just all the ones I've seen. That said, every hotel that I have been to that has a hot tub does not allow children under 12 in it due to health reasons. So whether the kid is angelic or not, if he's under 12 he is not allowed in.

Well, I 'm glad I'm not in the same hot tubs with you. You seem to gravitate toward the restricted, hellion filled ones . Most hot tubs I've been to have the requisite warnings about children in hot tubs (for liabilities sake), but I have not seen many with prohibitions on kids (including at the VWL, BCV, and SAB). I'll check out the signs again when we are there in May. Everyone has a different experience I guess.

Okay, I've tried to stay out of this thread, but just want to say that folks might do well to heed those "under 12" warnings for their children. My DH had to work very closely with the CDC several years ago on a fairly big Legionnaire's Disease case originated by a jacuzzi on a large, luxury cruise liner. According to the CDC, even the most posh, 4-star hotels and cruise ships can and do have problems with the jacuzzis because, unlike what most think, it's not simply a case of cleanliness. As well as Legionnaires, you can catch Nontuberculous Mycobacterial Disease, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Dermatitis and Giardiasis to name just a few. Most of the CDC guys said they would never go in a public jacuzzi and would not allow their families to do so either. Children, the elderly or those with other illnesses (diabetes, AIDS, undergoing Chemo treatments) are the most at risk. I know I won't go in them anymore and no way I'm allowing my young daughter to use one. If you are interested in learning more, go the CDC website under their Healthy Swimming 2003 (www.cdc.gov/healthyswimming/mmwr.htm).

And, if you ever see an infant without a proper swim diaper in ANY pool, notify the lifeguard, their parents are putting others at risk for all sorts of illnesses.
