We will be travelling to Disney in november. Both of our children have severe milk allergies. I'm just looking for some recommendations for restaurants that accomadate milk allergies. Any ideas for CS restaurants??

Every sitdown restaurant will send out a chef to take care of your needs.

Every counter service restaurant has a book at the cashier that will give you a full listing of all ingredients in every menu item. If you ask the cashier for the book a when you're still a couple people back in line, you have more time to look through it. Tell the cashier that you have food allergies and they will cook your food on a clean grill (or fryer or whatever).

I would suggest that you email Brenda Bennett (her email address is in the FAQ for this board) and ask her about the dairy free items at the CS places and the carts. For peanut/nut allergies she sends out several attachments with items listed that are safe and some things that are unsafe (that you might think could be safe). She probably has a similar list for dairy.

Indeed the CS places have binder you can look at but I have never found that easy to do. If the restaurant is at all busy you need to wait until you get up to the person taking orders and ask for it - then the binder is HUGE (HUGE. Did I mention it is huge? :badpc:

So everyone behind you groans audibly when you are holding up the line reading through a book 10x the size of War and Peace and trying to read through these ingredient labels that would make Albert Einstein cry uncle. At least that was my impression of trying to get "the book." If you can manage to get up to the counter and get it from a manager without looking like you are cutting in line then by all means....I would try that. The binder is not arranged like "these things are not safe for this" - it is just ingredient labels that were either photocopied or typed out for everything they serve.

My strategy was to figure out some safe items that I knew he would always like from CS places and stick to those. That might not work well for some kids or adults who want more variety. I would try to figure out your CS places BEFORE you go - and stick to them. We did a lot of sit down meals at first with our son until we got used to the CS places.

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Post #3 has a section on dietic needs, there are lots of reports and links there you can use.

Or, if you want an easier route, click on the link in my signature.
