Children & DCA

I'll be honest, it was really hard not going to DLR last year. It will be more than two years since our last visit when we go this summer. We did have season passes to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. It's an alright place, but it really made me wish for Disneyland even more. They are just not as efficient when it comes to ride loading. And they do not have rides that babies can ride.

I'm curious to know where you live? I'm in the Sacramento area, but I used to work at Six Flags (back when it was still Marine world) 10 years ago. I also used to live in Vallejo. I totally agree that it's just an alright place. We had season passes last year thinking we'd go often, and we only went twice. For me the only ride really worth riding there is Medusa, and maybe the Joker, but we only went on it once.

When I was a child I lived on an Air Force base in Novato that is no longer there. We went to Marine World many times. I have told my kids there didn't use to be any rides, just animals. Oldest doesn't think that sounds like fun. We're in the Modesto area now. It would take us about 2 hours to get to Discovery Kingdom, but we still went several times and took advantage of discounts and free friend days to bring people with us. We did not go in the summer though except on a bring a friend day, and it was busy. The last trip was in December and it happened to be raining, but by noon it was just a light drizzle and then stopped. It was wonderful because there were no crowds. We rode Joker several times on that trip. It's a great ride.

The kids love the Bugs bunny area because the rides are just their size. But it's like Walt sitting on the bench watching his daughters ride the carousel. Great place for kids to have fun, nothing for the adults to do. That is why Disney is so superior to most other theme parks. They really do make most of the attractions appealing for all ages. And even the height requirement for many Disneyland rides is only 40". At 42" my son can ride all but Indy at DL and Screamin' at DCA. That's pretty good. Even our oldest couldn't ride a lot of things at Six Flags because they have height requirements of 54". We used our passes to go to Magic Mountain one day last June, and I think they have a few more rides that are appealing to the whole family than Discovery Kingdom, but overall no match for Disneyland.

I guess that's the thing with Bugsland. It's very charming and it really is a great place for kids with rides just their size. But people are right that the rides aren't very spectacular either and honestly most are not appealing to adults. I just hate the idea of losing the area because the park does need space for kids, and the rides at DCA are more thrilling meaning more need to riderswap. Anyway, it is all a wait and see game as they finish building Star Wars Land and decide how to implement Marvel into DCA.

Glad you guys are still close enough to Discovery Kingdom to at least be able to enjoy some theme park fun. :)

Hi neighbor! I worked at Marine World about 19 years ago. With DCA my boys love Monsters Inc. We will be really sad if they close it for Marvel Land.

Hello! Always great to meet people in my neck of the woods who love Disney just as much as I do. :dogdance:
