Does anyone know about any childcare for children under 2. We are staying at the akl and my brother is bringing his 2 year old and 6 month old. They would like to go out for dinner and hire a babysiting service while there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Disney uses Kids Night Out. They have a Web site. There's also Fairy Godmothers, a local company that has been around about 30 years. We've used them twice, and will use them again when we go in January and May.

I'd use the official service next time I go which is Kids Nite Out. If you inquire at the desk of AKL they will give you all the info and even call them for you to make arrangments. I used Fairy Godmothers my last trip and had mixed feelings about them...although my child was very well cared for there were a few things that I would have preferred done differently. Expect to pay about $60 and up for the evening depending you how long you are out!

Selkat, could you be more specific about what you didn't like? We thought our last two sitters from Fairy Godmothers were absolutely terrific.

You mentioned the Kids night out and the Fairy Godmothers. Can you tell me how to get to their websites or phone numbers possibly. Thanks for your information.

I would also like to know what problems were encountered with Fairy Godmothers. It woudl be nice to know for the future.

Thanks,

Fairy Godmothers is at (407) 969-9847 and toll free 877-611-4314

Kid's Night out is kidsniteout.com

Thanks for the information and phone number. I will get in contact with them regarding Spring Break.

I wish I could find out what Selkat didn't like about Fairy Godmothers. That would make me feel a little better if I knew what it was.

Thanks again.

Thanks Disneyark. That really helped a lot. I am from Arkansas also. Where are you from?

Thanks,

I'm from Fayetteville. We're going to WDW in November and I can't wait! We're considering using Kid's Nite Out. We have a PS for the California Grill and my husband really wants to go without the kids.

Good luck deciding which service to use! I just wish my 3 year old was old enough to stay at one of the Kid's Clubs at the hotels. pirate:

Thanks for posting that link to my old thread. I don't read the boards every day now that I'm back and when I went to look for my old thread using search I couldn't find it! My experience may well be a unique one...but I would have felt better about the whole thing if she hadn't seemed quite so ditzy (knocking on the wrong room, not bringing the toys out of her car). On the other hand I think she was a very nice and capable person. I guess you just don't want to have all these evening plans and have someone show up at your door that you don't feel 100% comfortable with. DH thought she was fine...but he isn't as picky as me  I think, all in all, I'd feel better using KNO as they are the official service now of WDW and I figure disney must have some oversight over them and perhaps the sitters are more familar with the resorts. However, everyone raves about the FG...that's the reason I picked them. Just IMHO!

I think one thing to note about Fairy Godmothers is that it's family run, not corporately run. It has never been officially sanctioned by Disney. (I think it was Kindercare before Kids Nite Out.) And there is a lot more formality to corporately run places. Also, the woman who runs Fairy Godmothers has done so for 25 years plus, and so she's probably used to doing things more casually than has become the norm these days.

Both our Fairy Godmothers showed up with a suitcase full of toys, but no real "paperwork" to speak of other than Fairy Godmothers fliers and cards. Both were early, too.

Kid's Nite out sounds good, too. But I'm not sure that the poster's situation would have been much different with them (the rain could have made the sitter late, prevented them from bringing up the toys, she wouldn't have heard the phone in the drawer, etc.) But that would have had paperwork (I think there's some stuff to sign) and they would have been in uniform with a nametag.

If you're nervous about any baby sitting situation, I'd consider having dinner at the resort you're at, that way you can check on the situation firsthand several times if you like. (We did that the first night with Fairy Godmothers. ) Or at least flag them that you'll be calling and to expect it, and to answer the phone!

Thanks again for all of the information about the babysitting services. I am sure that either one would be good.

Hey Disneyark, we have been to Fayetteville many many times for our daughter's softball team. It was nice to hear from someone up that way.

We will be in Disney in March, so I guess we won't see you then. Have a nice time.

Thanks,
