Child with chickenpox

I did not mean for this to become a big debate in any way possible. My child is 12 and has been vacinated from chicken pox but however still got them. The doctors did verify that this is chicken pox. The doctor said he would just get fewer of them with the vacine not in my son's case he got like 300-500 of them. My concern was if they weren't all completely gone will they let him in the park. We are not leaving until the 15th of December and he will not by any means be contagious then. I am just hoping my 6 year old doesn't get them. I just won't to enjoy our magical trip to the Happiest Place on Earth!

I got sick while on last year's Ladies Only Dis Diva Trip. I had a couple of splotches, but didn't think anything about it because I had CP as a child. A couple of days later I really broke out, went to the doc and yeah--CP again! When I told a friend of mine, she told me she has had them NINE times! Apparently some people just don't build up the immunity that most people do after having them.

(BTW--I suspect that I got them this time from Mom--who had been hospitalized with shingles a month or so before)

You merely posted a legitimate question, which was totally understandable.:goodvibes It's not your fault. I've asked everyone else in this thread to be polite - and not rude or snippy - to each other. It seems like people want to stay in 'debate mode' or defensive mode, though. And that's when the tone of a thread takes a negative turn, which I am trying to avoid.:goodvibes

It's not that hard to just ignore someone when they post a statement that is unpopular. Just don't reply. It's really that simple.

I find this odd. Is everyone aware that in the US there is a Chickenpox vaccine that is supposed to be prescribed to every child?

The vaccine was very new when my kids were young, we opted not to have it done.

Not to cause an argument at all.

Just because you believe somthing does not necessarily make it true, right or safe. Do what the TV commercials suggest and Consult your Physician.

We discussed with our ped, with DDs Gparents (who are both in the medical field) and did research on our own, we decided not to do it.

Also, keep in mind that many children who ARE vaccinated still get the chicken pox. You can't make a kid with the chicken pox be a reflection on the parent, because the truth is, they could have vaccinated or not vaccinated them, and the still can get it. It happens more often than you would think. I teach 4th grade and have at least one kid each year who has been vaccinated, who is home sick with chicken pox.

My view? Not a big deal. Especially considering that from what I've researched, one of the main reason that the varicella vaccine was put on the childhood schedule was so that parents wouldn't be missing work to be home taking care of their contagious child. :confused3

And yes, they do still get them. It's chicken pox, it's not the worst thing in the world for them to get. Just like the flu shot, even if you get it you can still get the flu.......

:thumbsup2 What Sherry said OP, you had a great question, don't feel bad about asking it. :)
