Child tracking device-Ionkids

Does anyone have the Ionkids tracking device, and if so have you used it at WDW? What do you think about it? Im debtaing getting one now that I have two mobile kids. My 4 yr old son takes off in stores, and with the almost 1 yr getting her wheels, keeping track of both of them is going to be fun. I know, how did we all manage to grow up and be safe, but with all the wackos out there these days, I like the added protection! Dont get me wrong, I watch my kids like a hawk, but it only takes a second and theyre gone sometimes. I like that theres no monthly charge, you can track up to 4 kids, and that it doesnt rely on gps (a problem in buildings and the mountains). Basically, I like the entire package, except for the price, but for peace of mind its worth it. TIA!

I don't know that it would be necessary at WDW. They have an excellent system set up for finding lost children. No child has ever been reported abducted from there ... too much security in the parks themselves, for that to be a very easy target for preditors (jmho,of course). Now, at the mall, with all those clothes racks beckoning to children to hide in? This might be just the ticket!

If it makes you feel more secure though - it might be worth it, just for the peace of mind.

I don't know anything about those devices. I have a very active child who just turned 3 who has caused me lots of worry as he takes off fast. For our trip, he will be wearing one of those child harnesses. I don't care if people think of it like a leash. My child deserves more than a pet to be kept safe so I will do whatever it takes. I've only used the harness once before with him, in an airport. What I do is attach it to him and hook it to my beltloop. Then I hold his hand. (I definately don't want to teach him he doesn't have to hold my hand anymore!) That way, the harness is just plan B.

My other child is only 2 months old, so she can't take off yet. I use a sling to carry her - and used it for my son until he was about 33 pounds. They go up to at least 35 pounds, but little me felt like I would topple by then. A sling might be an easy way to keep your younger child from running - and still give you two hands for the fast, active child.

We'll be using the child harness and the sling and then park a single stroller that can be used for either child. That way, we don't have to push an empty stroller everywhere and can still keep the kids close to us.

Thanks for the advice. I use a Hotsling with my daughter now, depending on how my back is doing for the day. I plan to use it while standing in line with her. My 4 yr old has been to WDW twice now (2 and 3 yrs old). I rigged a fanny pack to a leash the first trip and when I didnt need it just tucked the leash into the back of his shirt. It looked better than a harness in all the pictures. I used it mainly when there were crowds (like during parades and shows emptying out). I too didnt care about what others thought, and actually had a woman say she wanted one for her hubby! Check out the animal ones they have at Target and Walmart. Theyre cute, but a bit bulky when it comes to rides.

I know WDW has a great lost child program-my parents lost me when I was three and they had given me a piece of paper with my hotel info, etc on it. We were reunited quickly. I got my son an id bracelet that he wears 24/7 (looks like a medical alert). It has his info, and our cell #s on it. Im getting one for my daughter too. I just worry about having two kids to watch (if they go in different directions). The Ionkids has a remote that will show you the direction your child is in, and you can track up to 4 kids. Both it and the wristband beep if the child goes out of the area that you set, up to 350 ft. In a crowd, this is a great feature as its hard to find a little person in a sea of tall bodies.

The only thing about trying to hear a 'beep' at WDW is that there is music piped in everywhere - and odd sounds coming from attractions, etc. As long as you wouldn't have to count on hearing that beep to find your child, it might work.
