Will disney allow you to use child swap for a child that meets the height requirements, but for other reasons (autism) cannot ride the ride. Last year we used the single rider line a few times and had my sister (who did not want to ride)stay with my daughter. This year we are taking my neice. She will want to do some of the more daring rides I don't think my daughter can handle. I would perfer us to tour as a group Much easier in event of meltdown with two adults than if I let my DH take off with neice for a few hours. Otherwise I'll just have to sit out with DD, but it would be nice to ride a coaster or two.

We didn't have any problems with doing a swap. Our daughter was tall enough but still couldn't ride many of the rides. I should add that she was in her wheelchair so I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

In most cases they will allow a rider switch pass for anyone that may not be able to ride, perhaps a Grandma that can't ride that attraction and doesn't want to sit by herself, one person can stay and chat with her, then go on the ride after the rest of her party gets off. At least this has been my experience.

I really don't think that the child's height or the existance of any special needs has anything to do with it.

I used child swap recently with my typical 10 yr old DD who simply didn't want to ride ToT :scared: with the rest of us (including her autistic brother, 8yrs.)
Everything worked out fine.

Enjoy!

Our experience, having just returned is that some CMs are puzzled by nonapparent issues (i.e. autism, fear, etc.), but have no other issues with doing the swap IF the ride is set up for it.
Space Mountain was no problem at all, but was a bit of a walk. The CM didn't even have a problem when my son decided to ride after all and we simply reversed back up to the platform.
PoC has no provisions for doing a swap, due to the design of the ride. I decided to skip it, but the CM who walked us to the exit area had to take us nearly the full circumference of the building.
At Expedition Everest, we had Fastpasses and the Fastpass line was short, so we were just instructed to have the one waiting go to the exit area, then come back through the Fastpass line. This trick might work well on other rides when you have a Fastpass.
