Child Swap question

I have a question about child swap. We used it last year at WDW and we were able to go up to the CM that was at the FP place for rides and get a child swap pass. Is that the same at DL or are just some rides like that. I'd like to know for my planning.

Yep it's the same. Sometimes you have to go through the FP line when you return to use your baby swap pass but other times such as SM you get to go through the exit and hop right on!

I love baby swap.

So, is child swap basically available at DL on all the rides that have a height limit? Like BTMRR, Splash Mountain, Indiana Jones, Space Mountain, Tower of Terror, Soarin, Screamin, Maliboomer, Mulholland Madness, Grizzly River Run?

Where do you get the child swap pass for all of these rides?

My almost 3 year old is 37 inches right now, so he can ride the 36 inch and up rides, but I don't think he'll get to 40 inches by the end of June.

Yep it's available on all of those rides. At 37 inches he can ride MATTERHORN. Ds loved this since it was his first "big boy ride".

So can someone explain to me how this works? Do we just stand in line with everyone else for the ride and when we get there one of us just stands off to the side with the smaller child and one of us goes on the ride and then when they return from the ride we swap the kid and I go on it? Or do I need to get the swap pass from something/somewhere else?

My DD will just have turned 4 in Feb before we go and without shoes she is 39". I am hoping with shoes she will be 40" and will be able to go on MOST rides. I know there are a couple that say 46". Anyone know where I can get 1" high tennis shoes for a 4 year old? :rotfl:

Thanks for any help.

Can we use the child swap if there is a child who is tall enough to ride but simply doesn't want to? My dd is 10 but is extremely cautious and won't want to ride most rides. We've discussed splitting up the family at times, but if we could use the child swap, it would help it feel more like a family vacation. Alternatively, since she is older, would they let her stand somewhere between the ride and exit and wait for us? I don't think she would feel comfortable waiting outside the ride (I don't think Mom here would either), but if she could simply stand where one exits the ride, that would be great.

:rotfl2: Put her in some of those princess platform flip flops. That should do the trick.

How we do the baby swap is we both go up to the fastpass person at the beginning of the line. We ask them if we can have a baby pass. Then they usually see one of us go on and the other with the kids.

Sometimes I have asked when Dh is already in line and as long as they see the smaller kiddos they have given it to us. It's a piece of paper. I usually wander off with the kids and do something they like to do if the wait is long. You can come back anytime that day it doesnt have to be immediately afterwards and the cool thing is it's good for you plus 1 guest. For instance, dd is tall enough to ride BTMRR but ds is not. Dh and dd go on BTMRR while ds and I do pirates. We meet when we are both done. I then take dd back on BTMRR and dh and ds do pirates again if they choose to. She loves this since she gets to go twice!

Hope that helps

My oldest is 6 and I havent tried this on SM which she is a little afraid to ride. Maybe someone else can help with this question.

We've never had to show our kids to get the baby swap. My ds was still too small this last time, and one of us would get on with dd. For example, dh and dd went on Splash, using their Fastpass. They just asked the CM for a baby swap for me. (ds and I rode Winnie the Pooh a few times, while dh and dd did Splash) Then, we met up when dh and dd were done, I got the baby swap, and dd and I went on Splash again. Then it was dh's turn to ride Winnie the Pooh with ds. But ds has never been in line for Splash at all. It worked the same with Space, too. However, dd freaked out when she went with me, so dh had to ride alone. Oh, well. At least he got to ride it.

One time they asked where the kids were when I approached them. Dh had not gotten in line yet and he was waiting with them about 10 feet away. Maybe it was because I look shady. :cool2: From now on I always bring the stroller up with me to ask just in case.

I can see it now..."Hey, lady! You do NOT have spit up on your shirt. Your hair is put together, you are not carrying a binky or diaper bag, and you don't look like you've had a 4 year old begging you for candy every 3 minutes since you got here. You don't have any children!" LOL

You must be really put together. Me, I wear my jeans until the holes get too embarrassing.

I'll remember your experience next time we go. Hopefully it will be before our 4 month old is big enough for everything.

:lmao: Put together I am not!

My DD3 is really tall for her age she is 38 1/2 inches and just turned three. She loves scary rides, a girl after my own heart, really! I had hopped she will grow more soon but don’t think a month will cut it. I think I will try the shoe thing, she wants to do Sorrin. I really don’t think that is a 40 ride. It was so calm, she would have loved it. The Grizzly ride how come that is a big kid ride? Is it worse than Kali River Rapids in WDW? And Indiana Jones is really big kid.. I don’t want to miss it, but might not be able to kid swap this trip. Should I beg my friends to watch her if they don’t want to go?
As for the shoes, I think those sparkle healed shoes will work if you put them on right before the ride, then take them off after, cant see those being comfortable to walk in a lot. But will fit right in with the princess theme.

Okay, now that I've googled around a bit I see that child swap is designed for kids who are truly too small for the ride and not those that just fear it, though I saw somewhere that the Haunted Mansion might give them out to anyone. Does anyone have experience asking for the swap for kids who simply aren't ready to go on the ride developmentally rather than just physically? Would they let my daughter cross through the ride and wait at the exit, or would she need to actually exit out of the ride?

Why do people keep wanting to swap their kids???:confused3 I've got two teenage sons I'll GIVE away. My grand-kids are a different story.:rolleyes1

Does anyone have any comments on my questions 2 posts up? I'm trying to figure out just how much we will need to split my family up on our trip since the 6yo is much more adventurous than the 10yo! :confused3

I have never tried - my kids are tiny - I am sure it wouldn't hurt to ask...I would go to the CM at the FP line (who hands out the passes), and let them know "these 2 are going on the ride, and I am going to wait with my child, can I get a swap pass so that I can ride when they are done" May or may not work, and may also vary by each CM at each ride, but I would definitely try.

I agree...depends on the CM. We were almost always asked to show the child that wouldn't be riding. And just so you know, if it's not a FP ride, you just ask the CM at the beginning of the ride (For ex. BTM was not using it's FP system while we were there, but because it had a height restriction, it still had a CM at the front from whom we got the FP). Then that person will tell you where to go to use it...usually the fp line, but sometimes an exit or wheelchair acces. line. (Like at Matterhorn and surprisingly at Space one time).

Because they don't have Childswap for rides that have no height requirement, (though it sounds like HM does? Never heard of that before) I'd say your chances of getting a childswap for an older child are small, but still worth a shot! :) :)
