Child only likes to sleep on the floor, not bed

I know this isn't a huge problem, but my DS 3 doesn't want to sleep in his toddler bed anymore, he only sleeps on the floor. I know at his daycare they nap in sleeping bags on the floor, and now i'm at the point where I don't really even mind that he sleeps on the floor, as long as he gets sleep.

Does anyone else have a child who does/did this? Did they outgrow it?

Floor, couch, upside down on her bed. As long as she sleeps, I don't care if it's standing on her head. :teeth:

She hasn't outgrown wanting to sleep in other places yet. Her main reason for sleeping on the couch is so she can wake up and watch cartoons without moving out of bed.

My 7 year old went through a stage when he was 3-4 where he liked to just sleep on the floor. I let him and eventually he wanted to sleep in his bed again. It was never a big deal. He used to put a sleeping bag on the floor in the living room and sleep there. My husband and I never minded, he always layed down when it was time.

Yes, same with me. His room floor is carpeted, and he just loves sleeping on the floor with his blankets and pillow.

I'm glad it's not unusual, and i've stopped fighting it because I just figure one day he'd outgrow it.

YES! We put his mattress on the floor to satisfy him. I later made him a fancy handpainted backboard for his bed with all his favorite cartoon characters painted on ...it got him back in the bed. :D

My son is almost 12 and prefers to sleep on the floor over his bed
As long as he gets enough sleep and he's happy, why not...

He does tend to sleep anywhere and everywhere tho. Once a couple of years ago I found him asleep on the stairs, another time under a table. ::yes::

Silly boy.......

DD did this. The most difficult part was finding her half the time. She has now moved back to her bed.

Both of my boys went through this stage. Right now getting them out of bed is the bigger problem in our house:rolleyes:

My son slept on the floor until he was 5 years old. No blanket, no pillow. Never found out why. It did not kill him. :teeth:

I went throught the same stage when I was a kid. My problem was I kept falling out of my bed because I was such a violent sleeper, so I solved it and slept on the floor. My mom would find me asleep in weird places like under beds, in hallways, in the bathroom, and under tables or chairs. I outgrew it and eventually moved back up to my bed!!!!

DD did this for a while when she was 2 1/2-3. She wouldn't sleep in her toddler bed (it was her crib that converted to a bed) anymore so we put the crib mattress on the floor and she was content for awhile. However, she had a bad habit of rolling all over and would sometime bang her head on something clear across the room because she had rolled so far. We ended up getting her a twin sized bed sooner than we had planned and she's been sleeping in it ever since.

As long as your DS is sleeping I wouldn't worry about it. I could be a lot worse.

All 4 of my boys, at one time or another, have been found on the floor. My 10 & 13 yo's prefer the floor.

This is a weird "kid" phase. I seem to remember sleeping on the floor and also "upside down" (head at foot and feet at head of bed) s a kid. As long as he's sleeping, I wouldn't sweat it. You'll have bigger fish to fry!!!!!!;)

My older DS went through this stage too (actually both my boys did). The older one had a really neat bunk bed - but turns out it was really uncomfortable and he just didn't know how to tell us. He was about 4 or 5 at the time. We got ride of that and got a regular bed and he hasn't slept on the floor since.

My younger DS also did the same thing. It wasn't a problem with the bed though. He'd sneak into his brothers room to sleep on the floor all the time. He just would not sleep by himself. One day he up and asks if he can have a little lamp next to his bed. So now he sleeps with a dim light on in his room and pretty much sticks to sleeping in his bed. Guess he was afraid of the dark and just wanted somebody else close by.

Maybe he feels the bed is too small? Is it possible to get him a twin bed instead of the toddler one? My DD 2 sleeps in her bed at night, but naptime, she sleeps on the floor too....we haven't had issues w/this yet, but who knows once she starts preschool and if they nap there. I'm sure its not a big deal though, like everyone said, as long as he sleeps!

All adults sleep in beds, so I think all outgrow it. :teeth: I say, don't worry about it, makes him happy.

Thanks everyone. I just bought him that new Buzz sleeping bag for when we go visit the in-laws and travel, so i'm probably only making it more attractive to him to sleep on the floor with his new sleeping bag.

Sounds like i'll need to get a new "twin" bed at some point soon and maybe some Buzz sheets and pillows.

For about 5 years, DS made a "nest" on the floor, with his down comfortor, sheets, blanket, pillow...the other kids would join him from time to time...at some point he started sleeping in his bed.

My DD slept on the floor, too, from about 18 months to about 3 years. She had a cute little toddler bed but for some reason always fell asleep on the floor. Thank God it was carpeted!!! We even found her one time asleep underneath her dresser because she rolled underneath it!! ROFL. We moved her, of course, but not before taking pictures....

Don't worry your child will outgrow it. As everyone else has been saying, as long as they sleep, it doesn't matter WHERE it is.
