Does anyone have advice on how to deal with our children's motion sickness (ages 2 and 5)? They will get sick on the drive in from the airport. We've used children's dramamine before, and while it works, it puts them both to sleep. Does anyone have experience with those wrist bands they sell for adults, or know if they are available for kids? thanks in advance.

My 6, almost 7, year old also gets motion sick in the car and probably an airplane too. The only thing that works for us is dramamine. I hate to see her drowsy but she's so sad and misrable when her stomach is upset.

My DS has delt with motion sickness since he was a toddler too. It's so hard at that age. Our Dr would never recomend anything but dramamine and it made him so sleepy too. I played with the dose and gave as little as possible to get the result we needed. Also found having a little something in the tummy at all times helps. Muching on crackers, pretzels etc helped. Ginger is a good safe choice but DS never liked ginger ale very much. Dramamine ll is only for 12 and up though we started DS on it about 9. Avoid rides that might trigger the problem. Tea cups are the worst. Anything that spins, yes Dumbo, tends to set it off too. Avoid too much junk food and getting overly heated in the parks as that also tends to make it worse. Good luck!!!

I have had severe motion sickness all of my life and have tried everything. The originial dramamine is the best thing for me. The scop patch also works for me but is not for kids. Most people who do not get motion sickness have no idea how bad it is. When I have gotten sick on short drives or flights my stomach has bothered me for days following the trip. Give the kids dramamine for the flight/drive and let them sleep. I do not do any coasters or spinning rides, even with dramamine I can not handle them. If you do try them start slow and work up to wilder things. There is still so much for people like me to enjoy at WDW, that's why I LOVE it so much! If you do try a ride and the kids feel sick, you can give them dramamine after the fact, but you will have to go back to the room for a nap. I am 41 years old and have never outgrown this. Some people do, but some just get worse as they get older. Lacee

Have you ever tried ginger? Have not tried it with children, but have heard it helps.

My daughter has suffered from vertigo and the physician prescribed Antivert, which is the same as Dramamine Less Drowsy. The prescription is for a lower dose than what is sold over the counter. I'm not sure if they use it in young children as a motion sickness preventative, but you could talk to the doctor. It does not make her so tired.

Also, does plain old children's Benadryl make them really tired? The Benadryl will work for motion sickness. The Dramamine is an antihistamine also, but combined with something else as well. Maybe you could try a children's Benadryl chewable if your doctor said it was okay, and see if that helped with less drowsiness.

Use BONINE
it's like dramamine but won't make them sleepy.

I have a daughter who throws up if she's in the car for more then 20 minutes.
Works like a charm.
Give it to them about a 1/2 hour to an hour before you leave.
No side effects that I've found.

You can get it at any drugstore right next to where the dramamine is.

Lacemouse,
I also have bad motion sickness. It's called vertigo.
I can't go on anything that spins. Even a slow merry-go-round will make me sick. Not just throw up sick but an intense headache and I can't stand up for a bit.

I went to the doctor and was given antivert. It helps a lot. I can fly now without any illness or dizziness.

I still avoid spinning rides though. It's just better that way. (no teacups for me)

Over the counter stuff, bands etc just weren't enough.
You should see the doctor, they can really help.

Bonine....

It is the best and it is chewable. I gaave it to one of my flower girls before our wedding as she was in twoother weddings and got so excited that she threw up... It worked like a charm.. She even lasted untill 11 pm that night.. I also use it myself...

Might try ginger!
My DD was given a bit of dried ginger when she started feeling sick on a whale watch. The staff on the boat told her to chew it then spit it out after a while. It cleared her quesiness right up and she didn't have any more problems (compared to other times when she was sick for hours).
After this, my mom told me a neighbor always fed her kids gingersnaps when they traveled to combat motion sickness.
Maybe ginger capsules would work?

My daughter gets motion sickness also. We have tried the children's sea bands and she seems to think they work for her. We traveled this weekend 6 hours one way through curvy, hilly terrain and she never complained once of motion sickness. I found them on the sea bands website. Walmart carrys the adult size but they are hard to find. I think that drugstore.com carrys them also but not sure about the children's size.
