Child modeling

Does anyone have thier child model or have any infomation on this? thanks!!

My niece was lucky enough to be signed by Elite modeling agency. She has appeared in ad's for Kohls and Sears and other smaller stores. The key thing to know is never pay for anything more than a portfolio. These are profesional pictures you bring on auditions (or if your really lucky your agent shows to clients). There are alot of scams/cons out there that will promise you jobs if you sign up/pay for classes, pictures etc.... If your child has the "look" people will pay her and seek her out........Good luck.

Not sure where you live but if it is near a big city, you would have less travel. My DS modeled when he was younger, mostly print ads for Gap (they do these in NYC, gap.com shoots in CA), Pottery Barn, Hartstrings, Fisher Price and a couple of other local places.

You can go about it in a couple of different ways, calling companies yourself & finding out if they are doing casting calls, etc.. or going thru an agency (who would not charge you) and having them call you with work. We started out on our own and then worked with an agency when he was over a year old.

You can do your own shots, most places like to see some good head shots and also full body, depending on what they would be modeling. Black and white exposure are good to have along with a few color shots too. If you aren't good at taking pictures, ask your friends, neighbors, or relatives if you know someone else might do a better job.

When my dd's were infants we listened to all our family and friends and we tried modeling. After the first agency did the pricey photo shoot and failed to send her to more than a few casting calls we went to another agency. They did another pricey photo shoot and sent my dd on a lot of casting calls. If you child is cranky or doesn't like the people at the shoots than that casting call is just wasted time for everyone. My wife,sil, and myself took time off from work, drove to Boston(lots of prospective jobs), and paid for parking to take my dd to these shoots and we only got a few call backs. After all these castings calls and call backs we did get one job. It was for 5 commercials for our local tv station promoting children's education. It took 2 days of filming and paid real well. We decided this job had paid for all our expenses to date and we quit. We couldn't afford all the time or expenses related to modeling. Just don't expect your child to be famous or make you rich. You should only do it as long as it is fun (for you and your child), you can afford all the expenses, and you have the time.
