I was watching Nancy Grace the other night and they were showing a video of a women dragging her child through a store on a leash. From what I remember the child has Autism and was getting into one of his episodes.

I don't have anything against putting a leash on a child in like Disney World or something like that. But in a grocery store?? That's not the main thing though, why would someone do that to their child, especially knowing that they have a disorder like that!

And what pisses me off the most is that NO ONE tried to stop her, instead they pull out their phones and start filming it.

i think its pure evil! people your kids are not pets!

It really depends.

If you have a child that will absolutely will not stay with you, it's either risk him running away and having him stolen, or put him on a "leash."

I can tell you that would be the LAST resort if I ever had to use it. I think it looks terrible, it makes them look like animals. But if they won't stay with me I wouldn't risk loosing my child.

I hate them. It makes the child seem like they're an animal.

i think sometimes they are necessary, if you have a child that is hard to control and will be in a very crowded public place, it's probably safer in case the child runs away.

obviously people are going to be stupid though and not realize how to use them properly, but generally, if a parent needs help keeping an eye on a rowdy child in somewhere, like disney for example, they're a good idea.

If you have a child that is a "runner" and won't stay with you then it is safer to use one in the appropriate manner. Now some people say just hold their hand, well if the child is small it is hard on their sockets to hold their arm up for a long time. My sister is a PT and she has seen many kids with problems in their shoulders due to hand holding for long lenghts of time and being jerked up by the hand.

I have not used one, but with my son I have been tempted. He will take off and think it is a game, but he has run out into a parking lot! This is when I totally understand the need for them.

I was a leash child.

Honestly? I think they're a good idea. Especially for rambunctious kids who don't want to stay put. And especially at a place like Disney/Six Flags.

This woman, though, I think was out of line with how she used the leash. That's not what it's meant for and she's giving those who use them properly a bad rep.

That said, if my child refuses to stay with me on a vacation, I will use a leash. I'd rather have my child on a leash and get disapproving looks from others than have my child run off and get lost.

Besides, some of the leashes now a days are kinda cute. Little monkeys and things.

It depends.
I think it's good for a little while if your child is a wild little thing, but..seriously?

Learn how to handle your child.

Good idea. I used to be full force against them, but once I started looking after my cousins while we were shopping I totally understood why people would use them. Especially if you were by yourself with more then one child. You can't just run after one child and leave the other one in a cart in the aisle by themselves. I'd rather my child be safe then have them running off everywhere.

What I don't agree with is people dragging their kids around on them. They're to keep your kids from wandering off, not to yank them everywhere. Plus some of them do look pretty cute.

ETA: Just watched the video and I cannot believe it. NO child should be dragged around like that especially around the neck no matter what, imo. That was horrible.

I don't really like them, but I do think that they are necessary in some situations.

Putting them around the child's kneck like that, tho? NO! I would NEVER put something around my child's kneck like that woman did. They are people- not animals.

My mom had me on a 'leash' when I was little, but it went around my wrist. Not my kneck.

definitely a good thing if you have a kid prone to wondering. it gives them the freedom to walk around and then the security that you know where they are.

my mother works for dcs, and she LOVES them. so even if you disagree, the people who make up the rules about how you can treat your kids like them.

of course, i don't mean that they're okay in this kind of situation.

also, i notice that people without children are much much harder on the choices made by those with children. (again, i'm not talking about this woman, i'm talking about all of you who said that they're "evil" when used properly:rolleyes:)

this is the one i see most often:

how does that look bad at all? its adorable, and its COMFORTABLE for the child.

I think they're disgusting, but for some people they're needed. I understand why people need them, I just don't like the terminology. "Leash" makes it sound like your child is an animal. "Restraint", because that's what it is, probably sounds less animalistic.

Oh well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. You need one, that's fine. I just hope I never have to use one on my children.

OMG!!!! WHERE WAS THAT LEASH HOLDING HIM!!!!
IF IT WAS WRAPPED AROUND THAT KIDS NECK (darn the fact that there is no caps for caps) I WOULD SLAP THAT WOMAN UNTIL SHE PEED HERSELF AND SLAPPED HER SOME MORE!

DRAGGING YOUR KID AROUND BY THE NECK WITH A LEASH IS LIKE HANGING THEM!

um no its on their backs

I think that the one Sparx posted, of the little monkey backpack, is so cute. It's the only "leash" I feel okay with.
