I know this has been discussed before but I can't find the previous thread. We have purchased some of those "ID Inside" wrist bracelets for our kids and were wondering what information is okay to disclose in it. For some reason I thought someone said not to put the child's name on it. What should we put on them?

I think that it would be ok to put their name on something hidden like that-I wouldn't have it anywhere obvious on them to avoid little ones being lured by someone calling their name. Something that I always do is I have each one of my kids wear a fanny pack. In it I put a family picture with my name and dh's name on the back. This way they can just show a CM the picture and say "this is what my mom/dad looks like". I think it is also helpful if a little one is lost and he/she is too young to say who his/her parents are. No way of anyone else "claiming" your child. I also like to have my kids dress alike so that if one is lost I can just point to one of the others and say, "he is wearing THAT shirt". I know that I may sound a little extreme but I guess living in NY makes me a little more paranoid about safety!

I know others disagree, but I've always felt that your childs name is not a big secret anyway. A 'bad person' only has to stand near you in a line, or watching a parade and will hear you call your child by his/her name many times in a brief period, so if they wanted to know his name to lure him away they would have no trouble discovering it.

If you're carrying a cell phone I would put that number on them too. Great idea about the family picture, makes ID'ing alot easier. I agree about including the child's name. It is hidden anyway and would only be seen by someone in an emergency.

I am thinking of getting these wrist bands for our next trip.

Where can we get these ID bracelets, would love to have them for our upcoming trip!!

I'd be interested in getting this information, too.

Also, I'd be open to discussing ideas for how to prepare/prevent the lost child situation.

I had heard of someone on the boards mentioning dog tags, but these bracelets sound like a good idea, too.

We plan to have our kids both wear the same clothes on the same day -- that way, if one gets lost, we can show them what the other child is wearing. Also, carry current photos of your child at all times. The family photo idea is great. Each child is getting a fanny pack to carry, and I plan to laminate the photos and put our info on the back.

Also -- I will be putting the family name on the inside of their shirt collars -- near the tag.

In terms of lost kid, my kids are at much greater risk for running off through a crowd than anything else. I will explain at the beginning to look for a CM if they are lost. Cell phones will be key to this process, I think.

For the first 2 days, we have a 2:1 ratio of adults:kids. For the rest of the trip, it's 1:1...we'll just make sure we know which adult has whom at which time.

I have to admit, this is a pretty scary thing for me.

LauraMc,

What makes it scary? Was there recent news in the parks or do you just mean the crowds in general and keeping track of your kids? What makes you think your kids are more likely to be lost than another parent's kids?

Me? I'm an anxious parent when it comes to safety and to whereabouts, even though my child is pretty good at staying nearby and obeys us most of the time.

I haven't seen them in any stores but I had bookmarked this site from a discussion on this board last year.

I found these too late to order them last time but they definitely look like a good idea. Hope that helps!
