:wave2: Hi. I suppose there is a thread out there for this already...sorry if there is! I was wondering if anyone uses child ID tags or anything like that? My DD - 5, DS -7 will be going for the first time with us this May and I am worried sick about losing one of them! :sad2: I have seen inserts for shoes (because apparently kidnappers don't normally remove shoes) and I have seen bracelets and necklaces. Any ideas for child safety?

Used with all my kids. Go to Walmart, there is a kiosk towards the front where you make while you wait, little tags. Lots of shapes and colors. Type in what you want it to say and it engraves while you wait. (similar to pet tag). Weave it on a shoelace. They can't come off, they can't feel them and they can be noticed by others without reading them unless close. Add a fun bead - holiday, Mickey etc and call is shoe jewelry. What was most important to me was if they got lost. I didn't think of the worst scenario because no tag will help in that situation.

I'm taking my 3 kids (5 1/2years, 4 years and 21 months) in May as well. One thing I've been working with them on is if they get seperated from us to immediately go into the closest store and go behind the counter. Even if someone outside the store says that they work there and can help them they are to still go inside and behind the counter. Then they are supposed to tell the person behind the counter their name and tell them that our phone number is in their shoe.

Another thing my husband and I are doing is taking responsibility for one kid. The little one is 99% of the time in the carriage and the other 1% in her daddy's arms. So the 5 year old is mine and the 4 year old is my hubby's and we are to keep track of them. I find that it gets too easy to assume the other one is watching the kids. We are going with some of my family members so it will be easy to get wrapped up in conversation with someone and think that the other person is watching the kids. Plus this way my husband can't weasle out of kid patrol!!!!! :rotfl:

When are you going in May? We are there from the 7th-14th. I can't wait!!!!

I was thinking of printing out little labels with her name, mine and my cell phone and hotel I'm staying at. I was going to attach to the inside of her clothing where regular tags are and instruct my 3 year old to point to the tag if she gets lost. I really didn't want something showing - especially with her name on it.

Not my original idea, but an idea I learned here. Take a picture of your children with a digital camera every morning or every time they change clothes. That way you will have their most current picture with what they are wearing that day. In a panic, I'm not sure any of us would remember what they are wearing.

Some great ideas! Thanks! I am sure they are used to lost kids at Disney! We are going to be there May 20-26...then it is off on the wonder for the 3 day cruise! YEAH! :boat:

I ordered shoe tags from Who's Shoe ID. (I was also able to use a code to get a discount, but I can't remember what it was.) You can check them out at: http://www.whosshoesid.com/index.asp?cat=132814
I guess I will see if these work. I'm also going to take a digital picture of each of the kids before we leave the hotel for the parks of what they are wearing for the day.

Two thoughts - shoe tags can be attached on the shoe upside down so that they are not readable unless someone reaches down and turns them AND if tags/labels are placed inside the clothing, I am sure that the CMs are restricted as to their touching or looking at the children's clothing.

I have a sizzix and a laminatoing machine by zyron
so I am going to print out our names, hotel, cell phone numbers -
punch mini tags, laminate and slip through the bottom part of the laces - they are bery small and will tuck into the laces...

We were at Disney World in 2003 and I lost my 9 year old son for a brief 30 seconds but it was the longest 30 seconds in the world and everything was a blur during that time. I was screaming and crying at the top of my lungs and panicking. All the cast members there were very helpful in trying to calm me down but I could not calm down. The people in the parks were also so, so helpful in stopping what they were doing to help me out and calling out the name of my son as well. My husband found him within 30 seconds, thank goodness!!! BUT this year, I am thinking of taking wrist leashes for all 3 of them so this does NOT happen again.

Hello all. this is my first post here, but wanted to say, whatever you do, makesure its waterproof. Not only water from rides, but also sweat (I know, ewww!) and also spills. Some things will fade and swear if they get wet, so I would thing something like the metal tags engraved would be best.:)

Does anyone know if they sell the "pet" tags on property at the kennel by TTC? I would love to find a Mickey one for my DD. We used the one from Walmart on our previous trips and it gave me a great piece of mind. (of course I also labled everything else I got my hands on including my extra cell phone battery)

When I use to travel with Girl Scouts, we always had the girls that travel with us wear dog tags. When they first joined the troop, we would go to the local sporting goods or military surplus store and have a set made for each girl that had their name, emergency contact information, and any allergies (we had some girls that were allergic to bee stings and that kind of thing). On any trip, they had to wear them 24/7. If they tried to leave the room without it, they were sent back to get it. We also made them carry a laminated emergency contact card on one of their pockets that listed the adults on the trip and where they were staying...just incase. But being older girls, we were not too concerned about them getting lost. Our first priority was if something happened and one of them were seriously injured.

Just a side note, one of the things they teach you in safety classes is to teach your children (especially toddlers & preschoolers) that if they loose mommy &/or daddy to go find another mommy.

They do this because it is universal--wdw, mall, zoo, park, etc. Small children have a very difficult time telling the difference between a police officer, a security guard, a gas station attendent, or in a panic different name badges (cm v. guest of honor) at wdw. And not all places screen very well. A security guard at a mall may be a pedifile (sp?). And besides, even with places who do screen well, it is only after someone has been caught AND convicted does a flag ever show. Not to be morbid, but we all want our children as safe as possible. A mommy is usually a safe person. They will usually help a lost child & be more coherent than a terrified child. Plus it adds another line of defense and a witness. Bad people are usually looking for easy targets; a child who has already been "found" by someone else is not an easy target.

I was just looking through a catalog www.sb-kids.com (I have never ordered from them before), but in their catalog they have a device called "Mommy I'm Here" Child Locator. It is a little bear that attaches to their shoe or belt and the parents have a little device that if they press it they can hear a noise from 150 feet away. The cost is $29.95. I thought I would let everyone know.

Thanks.

Yes, at the Pet Store in DTD - you can get Mickey Ears and Chain for $12. We put DD name and our cell numbers on it. She knows to go to a CM (she pin trades so that helps). It is very light weight and water proof. It was a fantastic solution for us. We use it when traveling or in large crowded events.
Good Luck,
Karen
