I attended a safety awareness program yesterday and picked up two great id kits. They were $20 each, but well worth it. You get two id cards (in one kit) -one for the child and one for the parent. On it is a photo of your child, their dob, hgt, wgt, eye and hair color, and sex. On the back you can list 3 emergency contact numbers (home, work, cell) and by signing the card, you give your consent to treat the child in an emergency. You also get a disk with all the info on it, and you can purchase other items (cards, breakaway necklace, other kits, etc). In an emergency, its a no brainer to pull out the card and hand it to the police. The child can take the card to school, on trips, to grandmas, etc and should he need medical care, its covered. They tell you to teach the child that if he is snatched to drop the id right where he is standing so the police know the last spot he was at when taken. The best part is they will update the cards for free until the child is 18. For young kids, they recommend updating every 6 months, and for older kids every year. You can find them at kidzidz.com if anyone is interested.

My son also wears an id bracelet from childsid.com. He wears it 24/7 and people recognize it since they think its a medical id. It has his name, dob on the front with a train, and on the back his address, home #, my name and cell, dads name and cell, and drs #.

I like these, but I put it together myself. On the photo, I go one better and include a recent picture of me with my DD - that way, whichever CM is helping her doesn't have to worry whether I am her mom or someone claiming to be her mom...... Depending where we are, I use a clear luggage tag or a ziploc bag - it contains the picture of us, my cellphone number, other emergency contact info, and the other pertinent info.

You can also go to your driver's license station and can get a photo ID made just for kids. It looks JUST like a regular license except it says "for identification purposes only".

I think you need to bring their birth cert, ss card and it costs around $5. I've done this for years with our kids... it's great ID for flying but especially good if they go missing (God forbid). I like the idea of my children's stats, picture and info being in the driver's license data bank that can be accessed nationwide versus having a different kind of photo ID (you lose it and you've got nothing).

Just another option out there...

I read a great Idea on here earlier! Get a dog tag and put your name and your child's name, and cell phone number and the resort your staying in on it in case your child gets lost. princess: princess:

I do a walet sized family photo so the CM's could see who the child is with and put our cell phone number on the back and then laminate it.
