Child harness in WDW?

:rolleyes1
To the OP: it is in the end your family's decision if you need one, use one/ or not. That is great if some kids you can trust that much in a world of scary people not to run off. Sure the chances of someone 'bad' picking them up is very slim. A 'nice' person / CM could find them and help out. It's just up to you whether you feel comfortable either way. I personally don't want to take a chance, IF my daughter starts wandering a little, we will use one. She is 2 and some things might catch her attention for a closer look. As I said before I always saw moms w/ them at the mall and went Yeah okay how crazy! Then I had two of my own. While I wouldn't use it at our mall right now at a big amusement park where it draws all types/huge crowds, I think a little differently. Slim chance is still a chance. One our family doesn't want to take. I rather get a few rolling eyes than have something awful happen to my child. They have really cute ones, some even Disney theme that are backpacks. Those clip on and you can take the parent strap off and let them wear as just a backpack. Then if you feel the need to use it clip on the strap.

Its simply up to you. Good Luck!

I always swore I would never use one...and never needed one w/ dd (now 8.5yo). We traveled to WDW when she was 1.5yo and 2.5yo and she stayed right with us no problem.

Ds is a totally DIFFERENT kid..and a bolter. Give him 3 seconds and he is GONE... at least when he was 2yo during our trip w/ him.

We used the monkey backpack one and while he didn't love it, he loved having the freedom to roam a bit without having to hold mom or dad's hand every second.

He does of course look like he's wearing lederhosen in all our photos though! :thumbsup2

We are going to bring one for DS who will be 23 months at the time of our trip. We have the basic harness version. We bought it for DD#1 who only wore it a few times in places like the airport. DD#2 never needed it. DS loves to walk on his own, and is still learning to stay close. It is tough for DH and I to hold his hand also as we are both tall so we end up looking like Neanderthals stooping over when we hold his hand.

Thanks for all the replies!! I guess i didnt realize how "hot" this topic can be. I've never used one on any of my kids. But we have never taken them all to a place as crowded and huge as Disney. My 3 year old has NO FEAR of anyone or getting lost so we are worried she might take off. The 22 month old is not as brave but like some of you had mentioned, i think a little freedom here and there might do her a little good.

The dirty looks wouldnt bother me one bit! I dont care at all what others think about us. :cloud9:

Thanks everyone!

As others have pointed out, we got the monkey style backpack and it was way too hot and quickly was put in the stroller storage.

My Little Girl (3 1/2) is one that like to run. She is very fast and i knew going to disney we were going to need one. I bought her a mickey one! I Gave it to her when we got off the airplane and it was the perfect gift. Also I made a big deal about how mickey it hugging her and she never had a problem with it. I've gotting so many comments on them (ALL GOOD) most parents want to know where i found a mickey one. They can be found on amazon minnie is there too! Hope this helps

I don't use them and never will. It doesn't matter what I really think about them because I am not going to start an argument here. If you want to use one then have at it. Just make sure to still actually watch your child. It is not a babysitter.

We used them when our DDs were around OPs children's age. They were the harness type, but did not have any character attached to them so they were not that warm. We went in September, so it was really hot and an irritant to the children, and second, there were no crowds in September. After the 1st day, we put them away and have not used them since.
