On our cruise next year, our TA booked my oldest son under my sister in law's reservation since she is traveling as a single, this way it saved us money. My son will be physically staying in our stateroom though. I have seen this done a couple different times. Both of our reservations are supposed to be connected so our dining table should be the same. During the muster drill, should my son just stay with my sister in law if we are at different stations? What about when we arrive to port, will he need to checkin with my SIL? During online checkin, do I recall that we need to give people permission to take him off the ship? If he is staying with my SIL will that cause issues? My son will be 13 at time of cruising so he will be able to navigate whatever he needs with my SIL. We also are using Disney transfers so we wont have to worry about port arrival times. I will be most likely be doing the online checkin for both reservations, so I can make any changes needed. What else am I missing?

I know he definitely has to muster with your SIL.
Get an extra blank card at guest services so he can get into your room.

I think she'll have to fill out the form allowing him to leave with you?

During the muster drill, your son will need to go to the location for the room where he is assigned.

My understanding is that your sister-in-law will need to give you permission to leave the ship with your son, because the exit scans are by stateroom. You may need to give her permission to travel with him when you do online check-in before the cruise.

You can ask at Guest Services to get a key to your room for your son.

I am not sure how port check-in will work.

for Muster Drill locations. I wouldn't worry about moving him unless the locations are different.

Yes, to everything @Mommb said. You'll have to make sure you've checked off you and DH for taking him off the ship during online check in, but not a big deal. I don't think there should be a port arrival issue either.

We are sailing in just a few weeks and my son is with my dad and I'm with dad's gf (for status purposes). I'm not concerned about it at all. We did a whole big room swap in May and there weren't any issues with me and my son (he was officially roomed with DH and FIL and FIL/me swapped rooms).

The only thing I’ll add, having recently done this on the magic, is that when you go to guest services, you need an adult from each room to go together and request the room assignment switch.

Not to hijack this thread, but we have a similar situation where our daughter is assigned to her grandmother's room but will be staying with us. I know pre-paid gratuities are allocated based on the number of people in the room. Should we go to guest services and ask them to reallocate tips to reflect the number of people staying in the respective rooms since the actual level of effort is different than what the reservation suggests? We always bring a little extra for the room stewards, but wondering if we should adjust the pre-paid amounts as well. TIA!

I wouldn't reduce the gratuity going to the room steward with few people than expected, but would give additional gratuities to the room steward who's dealing with an additional person. I always increase the standard amount anyhow, but I might not increase if we're paying for one more person than is actually in the room (or would increase less than I do for the steward cleaning a room with an extra person).

There's no difference in when the castmembers get prepaid gratuities or additional gratuities charged onboard -- they will get their money when the cruise ends either way. You can pay any additional gratuity either in cash or by going to Guest Services and adding the charge to your account.

We always increase gratuities the 2nd to last day of the cruise because the last night is often a total zoo at guest relations.

I can think of something you’re missing. Sometimes musters aren’t just scheduled drills. Sometimes they happen in the middle of the night for an actual emergency.
