I'm not trying to cheat the mouse, but.... When we made our WDW reservations, our daughter was 9 yrs old. When we go in Jan, she will be 10 by a few weeks. When I made the reservations, they asked her birthday, but I still got the childs price for tickets.

So, when we make reservations for buffet meals, will I get charged for adult or child?

Did I get lucky, or do they go by age at time of purchase?

They go by the age that she will be when your vacation begins. So, you will need to pay for her as an adult, both at buffets and for park tickets. I honestly don't know how they will/won't know or where your DD's birthdate is stored.

I don't know how it works. I had the same issue for DD3. She was 2 when I reserved the package and made the ADRs, and they have her birthdate. I would have thought that there was some "automatic update", but there wasn't. When I called to pay the balance, I specifically told them that she was now 3 so they could adjust the price. I just thought that they would have pointed this out when I was paying the balance since they have her birthdate. Who knows.

This happened to us for our last trip. They asked our son's age when we booked and we simply answered 9 without thinking. We called them back to correct the info as he would be turning 10 before the trip. When we called last week to book our next trip, this CM carefully went over the birthdates of everyone that was under the age of 18.

I refuse to give them the kids' birthdates. I don't like that information in the hands of strangers. WDW is so obsessive about this it's unbelievable. We booked a trip last week for August. Our boys are 12. I told them that and the reservation agent automatically asked for their birthdates. I refused to give them citing: 1) I don't want strangers knowing the kids' birthdates and 2) what difference does their birthdate make to WDW -- they've long passed the 10-year old mark.

As far as I'm concerned WDW asks far too much personal information, so when I get tired of giving it, I just refuse.

I am not sure I understand your concern about the date of birth?? It is a matter of public record that everyone in the world can access without permission. Now if they asked for SSN I would be apprehensive, but a DOB is only a way for them to verify age for the tickets you are buying.

Could they refuse to sell someone a package for refusing to give birthdates??? :confused3 I would hope they wouldn't, but it may be within their legal rights. Just a thought.

Back to the OP, we have always given the age the children will be at the time of the trip. I would hate to get there and have problems because the age was messed up. The trip we are booking for Thanksgiving has us now buying a ticket for our DD2 because she will turn 3 before we get there. Of course, at the age your daughter is (10 by a few weeks) they probably will not notice. You will probably be able to squeak by with few problems. Good luck either way!

Disney's best bet with people who refuse to give DOB (which you are right, is pretty silly) would be to bill them the adult prices for all services. If someone is unwilling to prove that they qualify for discounts on services, they just don't get them.
