Sunday Dec 12 - EMH at MK

For those of you keeping track - Today is our first day in the parks, and as is customary for our family, MK gets the nod. We just can't picture starting anywhere else.

Well, that, and the fact that DS is a Stitch fanatic, and can't wait to ride Stitch's Great Escape!!

Here's how our day went:

Woke just before 6:00, DS up too - me thinks he's pumped about today. :)
Showered, dressed and out for beverage refills and to check the weather – brrrrr high of 65 today, and in the 40’s at 6:30.

I thought I left winter in Winnipeg?

Ate in the room – muffins and juice, with coffee for me ; hot chocolate for mom. (She's not a coffee drinker!! )

Out to the bus stop at 7:10 (we didn't want to miss the bus like last year...)and there was only one couple waiting. And the bus was just pulling up! So it was just the five of us off to the Magic Kingdom!!

Arived by 7:25 and in line for early entry – not many people here yet; but the ropes are up – CM told us that we’d be let through the turnstiles by 7:30. We met a mom and daughter from Maine – who as fate would have it, were dressed in lighter clothes than us…(yeah I know, we're from Canada - we should be in shorts - NOT! it's only 45 degrees!! )

Waited at rope and just before 8 the magic began – the music started, and a senior CM chose 5-6 kids to help open the park, DW gets a little teary with the music, the chanting etc – ya gotta love her!

And "3-2-1" Woo Hoo! Here we go!

Mom went to get our stroller while DS and I waited just on the other side of the tunnel – and watched while a woman helped herself to the stroller at the end of the line – and no she didn’t pay for it or have a stroller pass – she came in after us… and never stopped - didn't even batt an eye!!

Anywhoo, it was off to Fantasyland and Dumbo, very short wait, then Pooh, Snow White, and Peter Pan – there was a line here because they were having trouble with one of the boats – 5-10 minute wait – so we waited since others decided to leave we were close to the front. CM came by to say it would be longer than they first thought, so we left, but got FP’s on the way out.

So we rode the carrousel, afterwards DS tried to pull the sword from the stone! DW asked me if I had packed the extra tape for the video camera into the backpack – nope (you'd think after last year she'd know not to ask me...)

So she went to find some, and DS and I headed for the tea cups!! DW found us after, and joined us for a second spin!! Over to Tomorrowland, and Stitch – no line so we just had to wait for the next opening. Say what you want – but we thought this was fun – DS loved it! And we thought it was cute; Sure it could have been longer, but well done all the same.

Over to Buzz and DS rode with mom, I pulled in behind. We were stuck for a little while in one spot so I loaded up on the points.

DS, who is not a coaster fan yet wanted to ride Goofy’s barnstormer – so we headed over to Mickey’s Toontown, 9:50 – waited the most so far this am. Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore opened this area at 10:00, and we went straight to the kid coaster. Mom (who is terrified of coasters, heights, and anything too fast) rode with DS and I was behind – if DS was a little apprehensive during the ascent, his mom was terrified!!

DS really enjoyed his flight – he admitted he was a little scared, but he got off and wanted to ride again!! Mom sat this one out. :rolleyes1 DS skinned his ankle hurrying back to the line, but had even more fun the second time!

Thunder Mountain was calling him now! So we packed up and headed out – stopped and rode Peter Pan with our FP’s – and wondered why people were standing in a 25 minute line…when will they learn?

Over to BTMR where we walked for about 5 mins in the queue and rode all together – DS liked the wild ride, but Mom had her eyes closed – she’s not a big fan… She also had a death grip on the back of my shoulder...

Time for lunch! Pecos Bill’s here we come! This is fast becoming our favorite place to have an early lunch. We sat outside and had our cheeseburgers with the birds – which was fun at first, but I had one steal a fry right out of my hand as I was about to eat it!!

Headed over to HM and it felt like the first time – the ride seemed different this year…maybe we forgot some of the details.. whatever, it made the ride more fun!

Over to Adventureland , and on the way by thought DS could use some bloodsugar correction, so we hit Aloha Isle and had a pineapple and a twist cup!! We rode Aladdin and watched the camels spit this year! Cold morning, and yet the camels are spitting at people. Maybe Disney sells more sweatshirts this way... DW really likes the theming at Aladdin more so than Dumbo. We heard Tiki birds calling, so we stopped in – always a fun break!

Pirates had a 45 minute wait time (and too many people willing to stand and do nothing…) and since DW wanted to try the Liberty Belle – we passed through to Frontierland and through the crowd to the boat – and it was just ready to board!

I'm not ashamed to say that I really enjoyed the relaxing pace and the stories of Sam Clemens and Tom and Huck – we saw the park in a different light, and a different view – very nice. I think we’ll try Tom Saywer Island this trip…

We thought we’d try Mickey’s Philharmagic now – but it was down, and the CM’s had no idea how long it might be… Watched the Sword and the Stone ceremony – DS wanted to try pulling out the sword again!!

Back through to Tomorrowland, and rode TTA to take a break, and relax a little. It was almost 2:00, and Mom wanted to do some shopping before the parade – so we decided to cut through the Plaza Pavilion and head for Main Street. We saw Stitch by the Timekeeper and stopped for photos.

On to Main Street. DS and I chose a spot on the curb in front of the theatre, and Mom went across to the Emporium. We had popcorn and cookies/cakes upon her return. She ducked out again to get a Minnie Santa hat – and came back and we visited with an Englishman and his 3 year old daughter – what a cutie ! DS and I played I spy to pass the time, and the parade soon came down Main Street!

We hadn’t seen the Magic Moments parade before – and really enjoyed it – I thought it seemed short (maybe the expectation) but it captured the spirit of Walt and his life.

DW had found a MK board game that she wanted to buy – so she grabbed it while DS and I took some pictures along Main Street. DW and DS returned the stroller while I took advantage of the clear blue sky for some last minute photos of Town Square. Just in time too, – as the batteries died almost on que.

We bussed back to the hotel – freshened up and headed over to DTD so DS could pick out the Bionicle toy he had spied yesterday. He has his own $ this trip so he’s watching the stores like a hawk - checking out the wares! Bionicles are a big hit with him right now, and he was still talking about all the sets he saw yesterday at the Lego store.

Home by 6:00 and ordered pizza from the Resort for supper. I downloaded 159 pictures from our day – and began the trip report while DS, who is fighting a bug, started to build his Bionicle – he has a little melt down, and mom helped him finish. We all watched Mickey’s Once upon a Christmas while we worked.

Not a terribly eventful day - but that's okay. We were able to take advantage of the light crowds and ride most everything we wanted, knowing we'll be back Tuesday evening for MVMCP.

For now, it's off to sleep, with Epcot tomorrow morning.
