My goodness. We're around 15 days from leaving and my DS2 has just got chicken pox!!!!! We're hoping like mad that he's clear for when we go!!!!!!

You should be Ok by then to travel although he may be a little scabby. When my DD was 2 she got chicken pox while we were in spain and we werent allowed to fly home until all the blisters had scabbed as apparently thats when you are contageous, we had to stay an extra 4 days and she came out with spots about 3days before the end of our hols. If your unsure see your doctor and ask him to give you a letter saying DS is Ok to fly. Hope no one else catches it! Have a great trip.

That happened to us 12 years ago on our first ever trip to Florida, 2 days before we were supposed to leave. When we eventually got there DH got them a few days into the holiday. We can laugh about it now but was so gutted at the time.
Hope you get the all clear to go.

As soon as they spots turn to scabs they're no longer infectious so you will be fine by the time you go.

Obviously they may still be a little "spotty" but hey - I'm in my 40's and still spotty! :rotfl2:

When my DD5 had them she had 300 spots on her face alone and ended up in hospital for a few days! :scared1: Anyway - one excellent piece of advice my GP gave me was don't let her face get sunburnt for the next 18 months as the "fresh skin" revealed after the spots went would end up darker and could end up remaining that way. So plaster his face with suncream when ever you're out doors - even in this country. :thumbsup2

THANKS!!!! I'll get a doctors note if it looks really bad by the 30th!!!!

Hiya,

Both our LO's have had chicken pox - both over the same christmas :sad2: Our eldest was fine with it, our youngest not so good but the period where she felt poorly was only a matter of days and she was only 1 at the time, so she was rather unhappy with the whole affair!!!

Just to say though, by the two week mark they were both absolutely over it, just a few tiny scabs left, so fingers crossed for you :thumbsup2

Stock up on the calamine lotion :rotfl:

Ali :goodvibes

As soon as the spots are not pussing(what a lovely subject :rotfl: )and have scabbed over-he will no longer be infectious. I know it will cost you some money, but i also recommend a doctors note-as the last thing you want to do is get to the airport and they start questioning you.

All i will say is please keep an eye on his temperature+make him as cool as possible-baking soda baths(half a teaspoon in a tepid bath) are great to stop the itching+then smother in calamine lotion before bed, repeat with the bath+lotion in the morning(this was advised by the hospital)If need be put socks on his hands to stop the risk of infection caused by scratching.
I say all this as dd who was 6 at the time-had a fit+ended up in hospital for a couple of days-due to the temperature she was running form the chicken pox.People don't realise(i never did)just how dangerous it can be,she was checked for a stroke, heart attack+even meningitis just because of chicken pox before they put it down to her temp-i don't mean to scare anyone-but because of what happened to my daughter i like to tell others to hopefully prevent it from happening to someone else.Would also like to say that our other daughter came down with it 2 weeks after-she was 2 at the time-and we had no problems with her.

I hope all is well with your son.x.

When We Were There At Easter 2008,I Saw A Family Being Taken Away At Check In (MCO Airport) I Felt Really Sorry For Them As The Lady Produced A Dr's Certificate Which I Presume Was Saying That "Whoever" Was Fit To Go & The Immigration Were Arguing That No You Are Not Fit To Come Into Usa,How They Knew (The Immigration) That One Of Them Had Chicken Pox I Don't Know,Yes U Could See "Scabs" But U Also Could Tell That They Were Not Infectious..I Hope Your Son Feels Alot Better Very Soon.I Took Chicken Pox In My 20's & It Was Not A Nice Experience.

Hope your DS gets better soon! I had them as an adult a couple of years ago (those pesky nursery children and their illnesses! *lol*) and it's horrible.. Even when the itching stopped I looked like I had bad acne for ages

Oh no - that's horrible. I didn't get a doctors note. He hasn't got them that badly actually - they're not irratating him at all!!!!

Don't worry - I'd leave it for another 10 days and then if you're still worried about how he looks etc then go back for the Dr's note.

15 days is a long time to get over chicken pox. Once they've scabbed and start dropping off they disappear as quickly as they came. :thumbsup2

When i had them last year (Thanks DD) i was back at work within 10 days so he should be fine by the time you go:thumbsup2

Ahh poor thing:hug:

My DS had them in March, we got him EURAX cream and it was brilliant really dried the spots up also Piriton to prevent the itching the DR will prescribe this for you.

Hope hes better soon:grouphug:

Ahh I am glad that they are not irritating him too much.

Our nephew had the chicken pox about 6 weeks ago and we exposed our kids to him loads hoping that they would pick it up and then it would be one less thing to worry about - anyway needless to say that they didn't get it and now I am dreading them getting it just before we go on a holiday.

Kyle was fine with it he had about 6 spots on his face and was still his normal self for most of the time, the only thing that we noticed was that he complained of being tired more than usual.

This reminds me of a story my Grandad told me once. When he was growing up in Ireland-if anyone on the street/farms had chicken pox,the mum would ring the other Mum's+then they would ring the other's etc..and then they would all meet up with there children, nieces, nephews etc.. the next day with food+drink and have a  Chicken Pox Party  in the street or on the farms-in the hope that there children would catch it.To this day my Grandad still has'nt had chicken pox.he said he used to get upset that his friends would catch it and never him-so he still had to go to school, work in his Father's Shop+work on there farm.x.

Chickenpox is actually infections from 4 days before the spots come out until 5-7 days after the rash starts,so by the time you go he will be fine.If he gets to itchy give him some piriton(be careful if ashmatic) and get some lotion called EURAX.Cannot recommend enough especially if put in the fridge.

He will be fine by the time you go... i just hope that everyone else in your party has had it... as 15 days is about the incubation period... fingers crossed for you!

...ahhh I remember it so well!!!
