I can't believe it....My little DD came home today with a note from school saying that there are cases of chicken pox in her 2nd grade. There are 7 -2nd grade classes and 3 classes have confirmed cases. All the kids have had the chicken pox vaccine who are coming down with it. Now it takes 10-21 days for the rash to show up....2 weeks from tonight we are supposed to be at CBR. Before I was just worried about having good weather....now I'm going    Please say a prayer and send some pixiedust: that she misses this virus. THANKS :)

:yay: :yay: 14 days and counting :dance3:

Wish you the best!

Oh, that's not good... Has she had the vaccine? DS11 was just at the age when the vaccine came out for 18mos+ and he ultimately did catch CP when he was about 4 1/2 years old. But his case was very mild (20 bumps, max) and was no big deal to him itch and misery-wise. Going out in public with him, now that was a different story!

I remember being a newly single mom and having no one to leave him with at home, so we had to buy a gallon of milk at the Walgreen's Rx drive-thru with his prescriptions!! I begged the clerk to spare not only me and DS, but all the people in the store from being exposed to it. She did sell us the milk, but it was hilarious. Now. Not hilarious THEN.

Hang in there! Maybe you'll dodge a bullet!

I feel your pain! Strep is going around our school like crazy and we leave in 12 days!!! Lots of hope for good luck going out to you!

My oldest too got it pre-vaccine and both had severe cases... #3 got it post vaccine but had a very mild case- still waiting for #4 to get it too...

The problem I have with chicken pox is that I get them each time I'm exposed- had them 9 times already- yes true documented cases... but never been bad.

See if you can ask your pediatrician for a written prescription for acyclovir it is a medicine given at times and makes the cases even milder- promise not to fill it unless your child develops chicken pox on vacation...

Then pack all the other goodies you will need just in case...

And accept all the pixie dust you can to prevent it...

Not everyone will get it- the vaccine does actually prevent it in some and definitely makes it milder in those that do get it. And then you have those like my dh who despite being exposed several times as a kid and at least 3 as an adult has never had it.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Sending prayer  and special magic :tinker: pixiedust: pixiedust: to both families :grouphug: that your DK don't get sick. And a Prayer for a magical pixiedust: vacation. :teleport:

Thank you all for the prayers and the pixiedust:
My DD did have the vaccine. Sooooooooo we can just hope that the all this pixiedust: pixiedust: will create a magical bubble over her. LOL Mytwotinks I send you pixiedust: pixiedust: to protect yours from the nasty strep.
Thanks all I will keep you posted. :)

:dance3: 13 days til CBR :yay: :yay: :yay:

Oh I SO feel for you!!! DD had pink eye 2 weeks ago, DS had Roseola last week, and then he started with red spots that I feared were chicken pox (ended up being ???? allergic reaction maybe). I was SURE we would be dealing with my daughter getting the pox while at WDW in 2 weeks. Phew - bullet dodged.

Oh how I hope your DD will stay healthy!!! Lots of good vibes and pixie dust floating your way!! pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Since she had the vaccine, if she does get it it will be a very mild case. They are going to start recommending boosters for the chicken pox vaccine, but I'm not sure when that is going to take effect.

I think that sometimes people forget that humans are not all alike and they do not all react to everything the exact same way. Like the pp who had it 9 times, my dh has never had it yet he is immune. And trust me, he's been exposed quite a few times since he is a Pediatrician, and his titers came back verifying immunity. Your dd may not get this illness at all, but even if she does it will probably be very mild and won't affect your vacation at all. Good luck!

OH MY GOD!!!! We went in March 05 there was a chicken pox case 2 weeks before our trip! The boy was in her class! I called my ped. and he said calm down, most likely she won't get it , if she does it will be very mild. She did not get it. So I hope you are just as lucky! That stinks, I know!

gosh, what on earth is the point of the vaccine?! I guess as people have said at the very least if they get Chicken Pox it'll be mild. I had such a SEVERE case. My little sister had it first...the neighbor came over and kissed her on the cheek...whilst she had the pox... great don't know where those parents were! My sister was supposed to be a flower girl, my mom had made the dress and everything. She had to let the stand in (and terribly inferior might I add ;) ) flower girl have her dress. Just for fun my poxed little sister would chase me around trying to kiss me...a week later I had 105 fever and I was COVERED in pox. Spent two days in the hospital. I was 11 I think. AWFUL. I remember I thought that it was a right of passage in childhood. My mom actually had friends who brought their kids over while I was sick just to get their kids exposed to "get it over with"...that seems so WRONG to me somehow! I mean the parents actually said "GREAT, can I bring Tommy over...we just want to get it over with..." WHAT?!

sorry, didn't mean to hijack the Pox post...still wounded by my experience! :rotfl:

Yes, a bummer. We have a stomach virus going around my little girls' class. We leave in 9 days....plenty of time for her to get it and be passing it to all of us the week of our trip.......I HATE germs getting on my kids more than anything!!!!!
But, I am resigning myself to her getting it and we will just have to play around with our schedule if needed. Driving there and returning are a bit flexible. I have ADR's that I hate to break but if we are too nauseous to eat, then it doesn't really matter!
Do you have any flexibility ? I am so anxious about this but I started feeling better once I realized 1) can't do anything about it now, and 2)the trip isn't RUINED; just altered.
Good luck! Let us know.....

My parents and I took my niece to WDW when she was 6. The pox was going around at school but we went anyway. Sure enough she got them with 2 days left in the vaca. The Disney Dr. (whatever service they use) said we had to leave (we would have anyway). They came and gave the room a super cleaning and we had to rent a car and drive home instead of flying (to Nashville). We could have easily gotten her on the plane, there weren't that many pox, but chicken pox can be deadly to a fetus. Wasn't going to take a chance with someone else's baby just to save some inconvenience.

On the up side, Disney refunded the unused nights (which I didn't expect - chicken pox not their fault) and even assisted us in renting a car.

Tough call for you.

Not sure exactly where you are in Texas, but yep, chicken pox after the vaccine is running rampant around us here in the DFW area. Two of my four kids got it right before school started this year--and all of mine were vaccinated. The good news is that both cases were very mild--no real itching, one son had about 20 blisters and the other had about 12...nothing like we used to have in the "old days". Honestly, they got them on one day and two days later there was barely a spot left on them! The ped said they were contagious until the blisters crusted over, so for us, that was about a day--maybe a day and a half. It was very strange. Had I not had it confirmed by the ped, I would not have thought it was chickenpox.

Pooh...we are in the Austin area. I spoke to her teacher today and she said she is trying to take every precaution. She doesn't want it in her room. So far she is good. Good thing we have so much pixiedust: coming our way. :)

pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: I wish you the best of luck and I pray you don't have't to deal with this..We live in Tennessee and I know of several cases going around locally. My DD 10 had the chicken pox vaccine at age 2 because of some breathing problems and according to her doctor she will either not take the virus or if she does she would only break out with a couple spots and not get a bad case. Tell me what case of chicken pox is not bad..I'm in the same boat as you we leave in 22 days and I'm praying my daughter isn't affected. We were at a company picnic a 3 weeks ago and later found out that one of the ladies there in her 50's broke out with it the next day. Oh well it's been over 3 weeks since DD10 was exposed and nothing so hopefully we dodged that bullett..I'm throwing some extra pixie dust your way have a good time with no unwanted guests....pixiedust:

thinking good thoughts that you escape the pox!

my youngest was required to get the chicken pox shot in order to attend preschool. She broke out about 12 days post shot.

So sorry! What bad timing. Hoping she doesn't get them.

Who had the bright idea to to start vaccinating for this and turn it into a new strain? :confused3

MissHilda1....I'm so happy to hear your family has missed this virus. :yay: Thanks for all the pixiedust: If it worked once for you hopefully it still has some magic in it for us! :) You all have been so great to chat with over this. :surfweb: I love to come on these boards. Thanks again :thanks:

:hourglass 13 days and counting :dance3:
