Though I hesitate to ask for fear of those who might question my parenting, I am wondering which restaurants out there absolutely do not have chicken nuggets for planning purposes. I know that some will give them to you on request, and others simply don't have them available. My son has a diagnosed, legitimate eating disorder in which he eats only 12 very specific items of food and chicken nuggets happen to be on the list. We've been to Disney plenty of times, and most of the time we either feed him before or after our meal just to make sure that he gets some calories.

For those who might remind me of the "you eat what I serve you" method of raising a child, I would respond with "try walking in my shoes" - when your child goes on hunger strikes for days at a time when you try to "cure" them of their fussiness ending with a trip to the hospital, you start to get a bit more flexible about parenting philosophy.

So, we're looking to find places that can accommodate our need for chicken nuggets while still giving the rest of the family (4 normal eaters) an opportunity to try something new, different or adventurous!

Thanks for any helpful advice!

Wow! For a second I thought I was reading my story...only my son will not even eat chicken nuggets. It makes it very hard where we go on vacation. I know what you mean about the "hunger strike". He is 5 yrs old and just recently started chewing so I have high hopes for our vacation next month. Good luck during your meals!

There is a great feature here on the DIS that allows you to search for any menu item across all the restaurants on property. Near the top of this page is a dark blue menubar. Hover over "Dining" and select "Menus" from the drop-down list. You can do your search from that page.

Thanks everyone! I have access to menus, but some restaurants will serve chicken nuggets even when they are not on the menu. For example, Garden Grill doesn't generally serve chicken nuggets, but if you ask specifically for them, they'll bring them out! I'm wondering if others have had experiences like this.

I know BOG does not have chicken nuggets available. Also, les chefs has chicken fingers but not nuggets. I know that makes a difference for some. Same for La Hacienda.
If you have a list of places you want to go that might help us to let you know more specifically.

No flames from me! You have to feed your child and work with what they will eat. My dd has just started to get picky but its not a medical issue just a nearly 3 yr old thing lol sometimes I fight the battle and she eats what I want or doesn't eat and other times I make something I know she will eat. She has started to realize she better try it lol but again, she is just being a typical kid and there isn't a medical reason.

Honestly, I would check out the menus and either only go to places that offer nuggets on the menu OR feed child before or after the meal. While it must be a huge struggle for you having this situation - I can't imagine putting that burden on the servers by asking them for a favor to produce something that is not readily available at that restaurant.

And I realize a lot of people have done this at various places but I can't imagine asking a restaurant to be my own personal chef and come up with something that isn't on the menu.

Luckily you are smart enough to plan ahead so you can know all the places to go to order them and the best places to pick them up before a meal somewhere else.

Best of luck - I went last year with nephew who is very picky...but no disorder, just very picky - and it made it very challenging to pick our restaurants. We ended up feeding him before or after the rest of us a few times...Or he just ate a dessert at some restaurants (hey - it's vacation - no big deal a few times).

'Ohana will serve nuggets. The meal is served family style but they offer alternate choices for picky kids, which mine have always wanted something different. I didn't even have to request it on our last trip. Our server asked right off if our daughters would like something different. I know nuggets are one of their alternatives.

Yes they bring my son chicken nuggets every time we go. Never been a problem. Last year we ate at Boma and they were also willing to bring him nuggets. I think in these two cases as with Garden Grill there are other restaurants right near them that have nuggets so they get them from the other place.

The luck that I have had is if the table service restaurant has a counter service in the general vicinity they were able to get nuggests. California Grill was able to accommodate with chicken nuggets.

The place I would avoid is Be Our Guest, they don't have chicken nuggets and don't do off menu things. If it has to be "nuggets" I would also advise against any restaurant that has chicken fingers such as Chefs dr France. I hope you and your family have a great vacation

When we ate at Biergarten gluten free the chef brought us a plate of chicken strips. We didn't ask for them but he brought them along with a few other off menu items.

This may be an option for you, last year my DD (2 at the time) had no interest in more adventurous foods so we would get a chicken nugget CS meal (adult version so my mum and I could pinch one or two each, haha!!) We had a reservation at the Plaza but DD hadn't finished her nugget meal and as I was in the process of taking it from her when a waitress brought her a highchair and a plate and allowed her to sit at the table with us eating her nuggets! I am not sure if this was a random one off but it might just be worth asking if you want to dine somewhere that does not serve nuggets but has QS place en route.

I don't know if you were looking for info on TS restaurants only, but I remember that Pecos Bill's did not have chicken nuggets last time we were there. My youngest will only eat homemade hamburgers (and that is a recent breakthough as he has only recently started eating hamburger meat in any way) so I went to a nearby cart and got him a corndog to eat while the rest of us had burgers at Pecos Bill's. Cosmic Ray's does have nuggets.

When we're at Epcot, we often eat at Sunshine Seasons where he will eat the rotisserie chicken leg. At Studios, Backlot Express has chicken nuggets but I don't think ABC Commissary does (we avoid that place anyway). At AK, the dinosaur restaurant has them, but we usually get pizza at Pizzafari or BBQ at Flame Tree (again, they have chicken legs).

Great suggestion. Maybe I will check with each of the restaurants we go to early in the day to see if they will object to him eating outside food with us in the restaurant.

Hello

I didnt read all of the replies. I only wanted to answer the original posters questions and concerns.

First of all You are a bad parent!!! NONONO of course not. I am a father and was in your shoes many years ago. We were so happy once my son started eating pizza for crying out loud. Chicken nuggets were once his one and only food practically.

BUT let me tell you this. It does get better with patience. My son is now 18 and soon going off to college. He is still very picky. But his diet is still very simple. He moved up from chicken nuggets to actual chicken patties and chicken sandwiches. At first they were the breaded kind like the $1 Mc Chickens because they are so much like actual chicken nuggets. But as the years went by he will now eat chicken breat sandwiches. Yesterday for the 4th I took boneless skinless breast with salt, pepper, and some garlic powder and italian seasoning and grilled them and he still insists on sandwiches although while I was cooking I stole a small piece of chicken off of the grill and we both nibbled from it.

It was when he was about 10 years old that he discovered pizza. Well not that he discovered it,(we have been trying for years), but he was at a birthday party that was serving pizza. We dropped him off at a Chuckee Cheese or something similar and just let him fend on his own. He wanted to go so bad because he loved the arcades and games at these places. But we told him that we would feed him when he got home if they didnt have nuggets.

Well low and behold when we picked him up he actually had a sac of leftover pizza that he was so raving about when he ate it that the mother running the party was sure to give him some to take home. We had told her that our son might not eat and we were wrong.

Sometimes I think that kids are scared more of the humiliation than of the food so they bite the bullet (so to speak) and try something.

Well once the Pizza thing started , then the whole marinara sauce thing went in fashion. He will heat spagetti with plain marinara sauce. He absolutely loves chicken parmesean from mama melrose. He still has never had a hamburger or cheeseburger, but a couple times I snuck in breaded pork parmesean and he started liking pork chops a bit. When we drive by steak joints and you smell the bbq steak smell, he actually says "that smells good."

He has had bites of steak, but will not quite eat that yet. This is a quick and current list of his foods at 18 yrs of age

Chicken #1 3-4 times a week Nuggets, breast, etc..
Pizza Close #2 if not #1 3-4 times a week
cheese only but will eat pepperoni

Kraft Mac & Cheese (Kraft Only)

Spagetti w/ marinara No mosticolli or other noodles spagetti only

Garlic bread, mozz cheese sticks,
Hot dogs He has been a long time hot dog eater I should say. Hot dogs and chicken nuggets were ALL he would eat in the early days

He will not eat chicken wings or legs but if we had a rotisserie chicken he would pick the meat off of the breast and be fine with that. Some how he would get some roll or bread and make a sandwich out of it.

Not dinner related, but he recently discovered cinnamon rolls.

He only drinks
Water #1
Arnold Palmer tea
Chocolate milk Not alot but a little
and recently white milk with oreos or cake he discovered white milk compliments the chocolate experience
Milk Shakes

No POP Sprite he will drink but never does
Could not get him to try beer even though he is not old enough I know that he will never drink. That is great especially since he is going away to college soon.

That is it at Age 18

My wife has been so mad at me several times when I would force him to try things even little bites. It never did any good. It started crying fits and ruined meals even years later after he would finally eat something I forced him to eat as a child, it made it worse.

Let his tastes come naturally. There will be times when he gets older that he will feel humiliated because of his odd eating habits and he will make choices to finally try things and once he does you will see slight changes.

My son is no longer afraid to try small bites of things he liked nuggets so he did try fried shrimp and has eaten it a few times. But if your son is like mine I think alot of it has to do with texture rather than taste. The shrimp has little or no actual taste other than the breading, but the textur of it is what shy's him away from it. Same with the spagetti. Mostocolli just isnt the same texture.

Good luck and be patient Do not force and try vitamins if you feel he is not getting enough nutrients. We told our son when he was about 12 that he would have to start taking vitamins and I believe at that time he tried 2 new foods because of his fear of having to take a pill.

DD went through a period (a couple of years) where she would only eat noodles, french fries, juice and milk. It was horrible. Never got her diagnosed, but at age 7, her speech was finally good enough to let us know that the texture of meat made her gag.

So, she is now an ovo-lacto vegetarian with a fondness for pasta. Cooked veggies are also off her list, except for tomatoes.

I feel for all parents whose children, for one reason or another cannot or will not eat a majority of foods and I send you all a big hug.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with an older child picky eater. My 14 year old is so hard to feed outside our house. He actually has a large number of foods he will eat, but sauces, seasonings and dressings are out. Outside of breaded chicken nuggets- and he is picky about the breading- he will only eat plain foods. Often, on trips, he would get tired of nuggets, and would end up eating only a side of fries.
F&WF were a nightmare with him, he complained the whole time because we wanted to try things around the world, and he was bored.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he will broaden his tastes eventually. My DH and I laugh that his poor future wife is going to have to either break his habits or deal with his moodiness at mealtimes on their honeymoon.

It's good to know I'm not alone in this world...I have a 5 yr old with feeding issues that just started chewing. I cried when he ate his first pancake. The types of food he will eat are still limited but getting somewhat better. We are still trying with the pizza but no luck yet. Thank you for giving me hope!
