Chicken and waffles is the PA dutch version of hot chicken sandwich. Hot gravy and chicken is served over the hot waffle, no butter or sryup! This is the only way I ever ate waffles as a kid, never knew they were served as a breakfast food until I met my husband. I personally can't stand them with butter and sryup but for dessert mom would serve the leftover waffles with butter and powdered sugar. Of course there is the yummy alternative of ice cream on waffles!

I've never heard of that but I'll have to try it. :)

Boy, pas2, did you bring back some wonderful memories! I grew up in Lancaster County, so I know exactly what you're talking about! Mmmmmmmm. Wish I had some waffles and chicken gravy right now.

Of course, it's a no-no on my low carb diet, but a girl can dream, can't she?

320 days and counting . . . again

I do live in Lancaster County and LOVE chicken & waffles. Have to admit though, I NEED butter on mine. Brings out more of a flavor. My grandmother use to make them every Sunday for me.

The good ole days.....

Wow. Never heard of it, but it sounds good. I bet my kids would like that.

BTW frozen waffles work well in a pinch, especially when you want only one or two servings.

I went to Lehigh Univ. which is somewhat north of Lancaster County, and I encountered quite a few Pennsylvania Dutch things, but chicken and waffles passed me by.

I could just eat a Pierogie about now though. Mmmm haven't had one for at least 10 years.

In L.A. I always stop by Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles, where they serve the fried chicken and waffles with syrup over both-- oh, so delicious!
