Chick flicks for girls?

This is a rather odd question I think LOL. My 8 1/2 yr old dd is discovering chick flicks. She has asked to see Legally Blonde and 13 Going on 30. We watched Ever After together last weekend (and she liked it), and she wanted to watch A Walk to Remember with me. The latter deals with death, and she is scared of dying, so I won't let her watch that one. Does anyone have any good recomendations of those types of movies that she might be able to watch?? We have seen What a Girl Wants and Lizzie and Teenage Drama Queen, etc. I'm looking for something on video she might like that's clean enough for her to see. I'm drawing a blank, any ideas?

There are alot out there that are good for a girl her age. Let's see, "Runaway Bride" is fun and I don't remember it being too racy or anything.

And really "A Walk to Remember" isn't too awful. It's emotional to an extent, but they don't show any real scary death scenes or anything. Most of the movie is really a celebration of life. It has a great message for girls. I think she would love it. Mandy Moore won me over in that movie.

Princess Diaries.

What about Miss Congeniality? Clean enough, and pretty "chick flick-y".

Legally Blonde 2
Never Been Kissed (cute!)
Troop Beverly Hills ('oldie', but goodie)
Princess Diaries
Shag

Never Been Kissed is good??? Maybe we'll check that out!

We have Freaky Friday and Princess Diaries (can't wait for the sequel).

I loved a Walk To Remember, and thought it was clean, but every once in awhile, she'll crawl out of bed crying about death, and I think seeing a teenager dying of cancer would be too much for her. Maybe in a year or tow.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, keep 'em coming!!!

Princess Diaries, That movie with Minnie Driver and David Duchovny I can't remember the name or if it had racy scenes. Would Good Will Hunting be to old for her? Not much racy but may have swearing and sensitive subj.

Never been Kissed is cute and the only thing that came close to being racy was her brother was over aged and dating a 16 year old.

Blast from the Past
She's All That
Uptown Girls
Notting Hill
You've Got Mail
Ten Things I Hate About You
One Fine Day

my sister loved The Prince and Me

Ella Enchanted
Mean Girls
Return To Me
How To Deal
Bring It On
Clueless
10 Things I Hate About You

Sweet Home Alabama is definitely a good "chick flick." I LOVE it!!!! Also, Notting Hill...although could be too old for your daughter. Some others:
Sleepless in Seattle
Kate & Leopold
The Wedding Singer

It's a cute movie. DH rolled his eyes throught he whole thing, but I like it. :)

If she liked Ever After, she'll probably like The Princess Bride as well. :)

"The Wedding Singer" is good, but it does have a couple parts that might not be appropriate, you would have to decide if she can handle the mild sexual content. I'm pretty sure my DD handled it OK at a young age, alot of the sex stuff went over her head. She was more concerned with the funny parts, which is pretty much the whole movie.:D

The Minnie Driver/David Duchovny movie is Return to Me. I love that movie and don't remember anything racy in it. However it does deal with death and an important character dies at the beginning.

As far as I remember, Good Will Hunting has a LOT of the F word in it. So much so that it distracted me from the storyline when I saw it in the theater.

It's kind of a different genre, but how about the Anne of Green Gables series with Megan Follows? All the older kids and adults I know who have watched this love it - even men.

Man, why didn't I think of that one My 5 y.o. thinks that is awesome (there a few "naughty words" in it but she knows they are naughty and won't say them). She LOVES that movie and walks around singing all the songs. She thinks it's funny when she saw John Travolta in other movies..."Hey, it's Danny.... (but I digress...)

I would go to screenit.com before watching some of these movies...there's some drunken bar scene where she "outs" a friend of hers that I vaguely remember that wouldn't be good for an 8 yo. edited to add... in Sweet Home Alabama

I remember when it first came out I was in the 3rd grade (1978) and I went to see it in the theater I was eight years old. I loved it then and I love it now (have the double album sound track) It does have some tacky things in it (grease lightning) but I didn't understand it then, I just wanted to be Sandy and dance with John Travolta, lol I'd still love to dance with him just once.
