Chicco C5 vs Maclaren Triumph

I need a lightweight stroller for the airport. I am looking at the C5 or the Triumph. Does anyone have any experience with either stroller? I need to go to the store to check them both out, but it is sooo cold here I don't want to take the baby out. DS is four months now and 21lbs, so I want one that is pretty sturdy and will be comfortable for my big boy. I also want one that will have a little recline, that is why I don't want the volo.

I have the Chicco C5...we LOVE it. I know a lot of people swear by Mac's..we have a double that we love...but we bought the Chicco last August before one of our trips to WDW and it was great! I compared the Mac and the chicco in the store and the handles on the Chicco were higher, the wheels were larger and the seat was wider than the Mac. The basket underneath is a nice size as well. My baby ..who is now 14 months rides in it very comfortably as well as my 5 and 4 yo dd's..lol. I think the Mac may be a bit lighter, but this folds up nice and small..and you just can't beat the price!!....good luck and happy shopping! HTH

I just looked at both the strollers you are talking about for a cruise in Aug. I went with the C5 because the seat was bigger. The Triumph seat is much smaller, my daughter is 2 and she just looked more comfortable in it. We got it at babiesrus and the c5 was cheaper too. I hope this helps.

We have the chicco caddy in red...we have had it for almost two years and it is still in excellent condition!!! It is the best...with the carry case it is super easy to transport and it has a little reciline for a more comfy stroll!!! The handles are a great height and I would definitely recommend any strollers by this comapny!!!

I am glad to hear all the positive feedback on the C5/chicco brand. The Triumph for 2007 is around $175 so I was not in such a rush to get it. I am going to rent the gracco for the parks so he can totaly lay back and sleep, but I need something for the plane/airport. I will spend more if I have to but the c5 looks good to me so far! Thanks for all the advice.

Oh and i forgot..ours came with a rain cover which is great for WDW!!!
How old is your DS??? The stroller lays back pretty far, you ,ay not need to rent something else...my DD was fine in August, she was about 9 months then.

Ds will be turning 1 during our trip. I will have to try out whatever I get at home and see how he does. I like the the graco has a tray for him. I guess I have plenty of time to work all this out. One way or another I need the lightweight stroller. I don't think that I knew that the c5 came with a cover that is cool! Did you take it on the plane?

Yes we have taken it on the plane twice, with no problems at all....once on Spirit out of A.C and once on Jet Blue out of Newark.
Aww he's turning 1 on the trip..how fun! My youngest turned one on our trip in November..we had a great time. We had Breakfast at Crystal Palace for her b-day meal, she lOVED it!!!

I am planning to go to cp for his bday as well. He has Pooh in his room and he loves him. I love cp, my parents took me there when I was 3 and I still remember some of it! How does it work with the stroller and the plane? I have seen them just outside the door in the past but since I had no children I did not pay much attention. Do they put it in a closet, or in the overhead bin? Did ypu use the car seat for the little one? I am planning on it since we are renting a car in Orlando.

You can check the stroller at the gate.. right before you board they wll give you a tag to put on the stroller, then you wheel it down and leave it right outside the door to the plane. They will take all the strollers and put them in with the luggage and when your deboard the plane in Florida, they will put the strollers right outside the door. Sometimes they are waiting for you and sometimes it is a short wait to get them.
I have never taken a car seat on the plane...a lot of people will think i am a horrible Mom, oh well ...All three of my girls are excellent on the plane and know they must sit and behave. The baby sat on my lap the last 3 times we flew, she was wonderful...
Anyway we have used the Magical express since they started and before that we would hire a car and use their car seats.

Test drive them both. I wanted to get the Chicco because it was cheaper, but I kicked the tires all the time when I put DS in one at BRU. I also found that I couldn't steer as easily with one hand with the Chicco. The Triumph was a better choice for us, though I probably should have gotten the Volo, since the Volo is reclined about as much as the Chicco or Triumph and I almost never have my Triumph up totally straight.

So you are saying that the stationary position of the Volo is about the same as the reclined position of the triumph? I read in other places people complaining about kicking the tires on the chicco. I will have to take it for a test spin. I can't wait for this FREEZING weather to change, I am getting cabin fever and I have only been home yesterday and today. After all this reading I am so curious to get my hands on all the strollers!

We recently bought the C5 and really like it! The handles ar enice and high so DH does not ahve to stoop over to push it. Plus it cam eiwth a rain cover. It was a toss up between a Mac, Peg, and Chicco but we went with the Chicco for the price, weight, reclining, size (as DD2 is wide and tall), and overall preferene for it. DH does take long steps so he tends to step on the wheels (does this on our Graco too) but I don't ahve any problem with it.

which Gracco do you have? my dh is already complainong about kicking the tires! I should have never mentioned it to him! He is tall 6'5 so it might be a legit complaint. We have the Gracco quatro and he has no tire issues with it.

I would go with the one with the higher weight limit which I'm guessing is the Mac. If your son is already 21 pounds, he's going to outgrow most strollers fast. That's why we went with the Mac (Quest).

I know this is not one you mentioned, but we have the Mac Techno XT specifically for the adjustable handles (DH is over 6'3"). I got mine from Allbee Baby Carriage on line and they offer come great deals on Macs (much less than babies r us) Mac's also have a weight limit to 55 lbs (not sure about the Chicco- but I do remember kicking the wheels all the time when we took it for a "test drive")

thanks for all the info, I will have to check it all out. I just discovered that my ds no longer fits in his infant seat. I have the graco safe seat, it says up to 32" and 30 lbs, ds is about 21 lbs and 25 in and he does not fit. We just adjusted the shpulder straps to the highest level and now I can't snap it at all. I almost have to bend his arms in an unatural way to get him in and the snap at his crotch does not even come close to reaching. I called Graco and they said " yes you do loose alot of the strap when you place it in the highest position". Well what good does that do to have the right height if there is not enough strap to get around the baby and snap? Can you follow what I am saying? I guess I will just have to go buy the Toddler seat. I just makes me mad that they say a certain height and weight that seem to be impossible, thanks for listeining to my rant!

Well I made it out of the house today! I test drove the Mac's and the chicco, I have to say that I did kick the tires on the chicco and it was pretty anoying. I think that I am going to try to get a 2006 triumph on sale. I did read on another thread that the clips on the child restraint are hard to open, that is the one thing that I did not check today, duh, I will have to check it out tomorrow, did anyone else with a Mac have this issue? Thanks for all the good advice I appreciate it!

Since your son is just 4 months, I would go with the Mac Quest, it reclines more than the Mac Triumph and has the leg extender, which is a must with a young baby, also the seat is deeper so he will be more comfortable when he is older.
