Chicago to Baltimore

Any thoughts on where to stop for the night about half way between Chicago and the Baltimore/DC area? We aren't sure whether to take the northern route (toll roads) or a more southern route (through Indianapolis). Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome! Thank you.
