As a devoted lover of Chicago style pizza, I think I now have a new favorite. I have always liked the "big three": Pizzeria Uno (or Due), Lou Malnati's, and Gino's East. But a couple of years ago when I was staying in downtown Chicago on business, I discovered another player in the game. Just to be sure, I had their pizza again on a trip last year, and then had their pizza again this past weekend. My new favorite (or at least one that I really, really, like) is Pizano's. I have only eaten at the one at 61 E. Madison, but there is one in Wrigleyville and one further north on State Street I believe. The pizza has all of the great crust characteristics of the great legends of Chicago style pizza, but is much lighter in terms of tomatoes and seems a bit heavier on the cheese. Very, very tasty. Anyone else tried it? BTW, Pizano's is Rudy Malnati, Jr.'s place. He's apparently the brother of Lou Malnati and the son of Rudy Malnati, Sr. who was cofounder of Pizzeria Uno.

Not familiar with it, Mike, but will be on the lookout on travels within the city, sounds yummy!!!! :thumbsup2

i will be in chicago at the end of feb. usually go to ginos east. we will be staying on michigan avenue on the magnificent mile, where is the nearest pizanos???

That's good to know. I love Lou Malnati's pizza. We usually have to travel a bit for it but it's worth it. I'll be on the lookout for a Pizano's.

Hello to you, Mike! Are you having baseball withdrawals yet? I sure am! Looking forward to next season!

I'll have to keep this pizza in mind! I like pizza with lighter tomatoes, too, and the good crust! Thanks, Mike! ;)

I'll have to check this out. Personally, we love Connie's and Home Run Inn.

Hmmm.. that sounds good!

There's another little gem I LOVE to go to for deep dish pizza - it's WAY over on the north side of the city on Howard St., called "Gullivers". Whenever DH and I want deep dish pizzas, we alternate between Lou Malnati's and Gullivers. (both deliver to out area, too! :thumbsup2 )

okay straying from the chicago board, and now i am HUNGRY! we will have to try this when we take DD to the American Girl store....yummmmmm...now i have to go off in search of lunch!

Mmmmmmm . . Memories of My Pi, when they were across the street from Loyola. Now THAT was pizza. Must try this Pizano's next time I'm up there, though.

My DW and I have done Lou Malnati's a few times but really loved Gino's East. Boy, it's been a few years ... I think another road trip is in order for Pizano's!!

I've heard of it, but never tried it. I'll have to add it to my list. :)

I'm an Uno's girl myself. But ... I love pizza. I'll give it a try next time I'm in Chicago.

My absolute favorite is Pat's pizza. It's in lakeview/lincoln park area... 2679 N. Lincoln Ave, 773-248-0168. (It used to be on Sheffield near Belmont, but recently moved.) Pat's has the best thin crust pizza I've ever had. I used to eat there several times a month.

Sigh... I miss Chicago so much! Moved down to Florida last fall for a job, and this thread is making me homesick. However, it's nice being only a short 3 hour drive door to door from WDW.

:thumbsup2 thanks for the info. we always go to Giordano's on the way back to the train station.......never met a pizza we didn't like.... :moped: :woohoo:

I used to hang out in the Pizanos on State before it was Pizanos - it was Bottoms Up, a great bar. Never been in Pizano's - probably because they are not open for lunch. Now I'll have to try it.
