As I mentioned in the Chicago DIS meet post, DH is contemplating running in the Chicago Marathon on the 13th of October.

The race starts/ends in Grant Field. I am not sure I want to stay right downtown (hotel-wise), but if I don't, how difficult is this area to get to by car (driving, parking, etc.?)

If you stayed in one of the smaller towns outside of Chicago, Amtrak has stations in many of them and the train station is in downtown Chicago. My brother in law lives outside of Chicago, and occasionally we take the train downtown just to walk around. I think driving in downtown Chicago would be too much for me, but I don't really like to drive. I know there are taxis that travel through the downtown area as well.

Kristy, coming into Chicago is NEVER easy, espeicailly when an event, such as the Marathon is being held on the lakefront. As mentioned, a train ride into the city, from a suburban location, and then s short bus ride, or the like, is a very easy way to do it. I am not sure where they would have parking if you were to drive there.

Both the Grant Park underground (I think) is under construction, along with Soldier Field. I think these links may be of help.
