I want to take my girls to Chicago for a couple of days and want to stay close to the Magnificent Mile. No idea on where to stay where it isn't going to cost a fortune. Any help would be appreciated. Wanting to go Dec 27-29th. Thanks!!

We had luck doing priceline or hotwire for hotels in Chicago in the past. We managed to score the Intercontinental last time for a ridiculously cheap price.

Check better bidding and bidding for travel for priceline hints. Also check travelzoo, they have a chicago hotel section we have found decent deals on!

Have fun, we love to visit Chicago!

Go with priceline, that is the only way you will get a decent price downtown. Be aware that in addition to your hotel fee there will be a parking fee. If you do not mind staying outside of downtown the northern suburbs are great. We usually stay in Schaumburg. The Woodfield mall has almost everything that the Mag. mile does. We usually head downtown for a day. If you get into the parking garages before either 9 or 10 you only pay $13 for the whole day (until 5 or 6 PM)!

Before Priceline or Hotwire, check www.hotrooms.com -- they are a Chicago-only hotel consolidator. If those prices are not good enough, then go to Hotwire/Priceline.

If you have children with you and do not wish to share a bed with them, Hotwire is a safer bet than Priceline. Priceline will sometimes get you a room in an older hotel that only has one double bed.

Hey! Just wanted to pop in and say that I'll be in Chicago with my niece Dec. 28-29 :goodvibes

I would definately check out Priceline -- but as PP's said, make sure you factor in parking costs as they can be outrageous! We're staying at the Hard Rock and parking there is $49/night I think :scared1: Thank God we're taking the train in and not driving!

Be sure to check out the festivities at Navy Pier! They have a special Winter Wonderland that is going on thru Jan. 3 :santa:

Have a great time!

We did Priceline just this past weekend.

We got The Drake for $89 / night. :thumbsup2 Wonderful room, with a stunning view of The Lake. Oh - and the beds.... like sleeping on marshmallows. :cloud9:

This is the list of hotels that are 4 star - Mag Mile:

CHICAGO

North Michigan Avenue - River North Area

4 Star
Conrad Chicago (formerly Le Meridien)
The Drake (a Hilton)
Westin Michigan Avenue Chicago
Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers
W Chicago Lakeshore
Sutton Place Hotel Chicago
Omni Chicago Hotel
Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel
Intercontinental Chicago
Sofitel Water Tower Place
Westin Chicago River North
Hotel Sax Chicago (formerly House of Blues Hotel)
Dana Hotel and Spa
Avenue Hotel (formerly Radisson Hotel & Suites - Downtown Chicago)

If after you put in your price and it's NOT accepted - choose Lincoln park, too - but keep your choice as 4 Star - and up your bidding price. There are NO four star's in Lincoln Park, so it allows you another opportunity to up that price. If THAT doesn't work, and you need one more chance at it - choose Midway Airport area. Again... no 4 star's, and you're able to up your price one more time.

I think I started at $69 - then upped to $89, and chose Lincoln Park.

All the hotels on the 4 star list are really great. :thumbsup2

And just for fun - Drake view:

This is a good link too for Pricelline tips: http://biddingfortravel.*********/forums/42/t/Illinois-Chicago.html ETA: Looks like the link is starred out... just Google "Bidding For Travel"

Thank you for all your help and hints. I ended up booking the Chicago Hilton on Michigan Ave for $98 a night! We were then upgraded to a deluxe over looking the lake. Can't wait and the girls will be so excited when they find out that they get to go to the American Girl Store:)

Thanks CathrynRose!!!!!!!

I live in Chicago, but love to take mini staycations. I will definetely use your tips as I am looking to stay a couple of nights downtown in February.

The Hilton is a looong way from Michigan Ave. shopping. It is at 700 South Michigan. They used to run a free shopping shuttle up to the Water Tower area so check that out when you arrive. I just got back from Chicago today and stayed at the Homewood Suites just off Michigan north of the River. Free full breakfast every day and free dinner Mon-Thurs.

Have fun! Chicago is one of our favorite cities to visit. I was supposed to be there in December for a few days, but the meeting got cancelled. Was going to stay at the new Felix hotel which is getting good reviews.
